- Fabric knowledge — especially nylon, polyester, spandex/Lycra and performance fabrics
- Garment construction basics — seams, stitching, measurements, finishing
- Pattern-making basics
- Basic knowledge of activewear/fitness wear
- Sampling & product development — assisting with samples and correcting fits
- Tech-pack understanding is a bonus
