About the Role

n

We’re looking for a US Healthcare Interoperability Engineer: FHIR/HL7 with hands-on experience in FHIR, HL7 v2, healthcare systems, and software development.

n

The role combines healthcare domain knowledge with practical engineering. You’ll work alongside our existing development team on custom healthcare software and EHR/EMR platforms, contributing to healthcare workflows, interoperability, integrations, and production code.

n

This is a hands-on engineering role. Candidates whose experience is limited to healthcare analysis, implementation, configuration, documentation, or vendor coordination without software development experience are not a fit.

Responsibilities

n

* Design and develop healthcare interoperability solutions using FHIR and HL7 v2.

n

* Build and maintain production healthcare integrations and APIs.

n

* Write production code for healthcare data exchange, transformation, validation, and messaging.

n

* Work with EHRs, laboratories, pharmacies, clearinghouses, and other healthcare systems.

n

* Understand clinical and administrative workflows and translate requirements into technical implementations.

n

* Design FHIR-based data models, APIs, and integration architectures.

n

* Define and implement data mapping and transformation logic.

n

* Develop integration workflows with appropriate error handling, retries, reconciliation, logging, and monitoring.

n

* Work closely with developers on healthcare-specific backend and application functionality.

n

* Participate in healthcare data migration and interoperability projects.

n

* Troubleshoot complex healthcare integration and data-exchange issues.

n

* Review technical implementations for interoperability and healthcare data correctness.

n





* Contribute directly to application and backend development when required.

n

Required Qualifications

n

* 3+ years of professional software engineering experience.

n

* Strong hands-on experience with FHIR in production healthcare systems.

n

* Strong hands-on experience with HL7 v2 in production healthcare systems.

n

* Proven experience personally writing and maintaining production code for healthcare integrations, interoperability, APIs, or healthcare applications.

n

* Practical understanding of EHR/EMR systems and clinical workflows.

n

* Strong understanding of REST APIs and backend systems.

n

* Experience with healthcare data mapping, transformation, validation, and reconciliation.

n

* Experience working with FHIR resources such as:

Software Engineering + FHIR/HL7 + US Healthcare Domain Knowledge

n

You should be able to take a real-world healthcare requirement and determine how it should be implemented technically.

n

For example:

n

“When a provider orders a laboratory test during an encounter, the order should be transmitted electronically, the result should automatically return to the patient’s chart, abnormal results should be appropriately flagged, and a follow-up task should be generated.”

n

You should be able to:

n

* Understand the underlying workflow

n

* Identify the appropriate FHIR resources and/or HL7 messages

n

* Design the integration and data flow

n

* Define mappings and transformations

n

* Determine the required APIs and backend components

* Identify clinical and technical edge cases

* Work with the development team on implementation

This Is a Hands-On Engineering Role

* Healthcare business analysis

* EHR implementation or configuration

* Interface project management

* Vendor coordination

* FHIR/HL7 documentation or mapping without coding

* Non-technical healthcare consulting

n

Candidates must have demonstrated hands-on software development experience.

n

You do not need to specialize in a specific programming language. Experience with Node.js/TypeScript, Java, C#, Python, or another up-to-date development stack is acceptable.
