A Senior Registrar in Obstetrics & Gynaecology (Obs & Gynae) bridges the gap between junior trainees and consultants, leading emergency triage, labor ward management, complex surgical interventions, and clinical supervision.

Core Responsibilities
Labor Ward & Obstetric Care: Supervise labor floor activities, monitor high-risk pregnancies, conduct assisted vaginal deliveries (forceps/ventouse), and independently manage obstetric emergencies such as post-partum hemorrhage (PPH), uterine rupture, cord prolapse, and eclampsia.
Surgical Management: Perform and assist in major and minor obstetric and gynecological procedures, including emergency and elective Lower Segment Caesarean Sections (LSCS), diagnostic laparoscopy, laparotomy for ectopic pregnancy, cystectomies, and abdominal/vaginal hysterectomies.
Outpatient & Inpatient Management: Conduct antenatal, postnatal,



and gynaecology clinics; perform routine rounds in obstetric, gynecology, and high-dependency wards; formulate diagnostic and treatment plans for admitted patients.
Clinical Governance & Safety: Maintain patient safety standards, conduct clinical audits, present morbidity and mortality (M&M;) reviews, and implement perinatal protocols.
Supervision & Teaching: Supervise junior residents, interns, and nursing staff; lead bedside teaching, cardiotocography (CTG) interpretations, and emergency drills (e.g., neonatal resuscitation, massive transfusion protocols).
On-Call Duties: Lead the first-line emergency on-call rota for admissions, emergency triage, and overnight surgical cover.
