Core duties
Medication dispensing: Accurately fill and dispense prescriptions for both inpatients and outpatients, including compounding and packaging pharmaceuticals as needed.
Patient and staff counseling: Advise patients on proper medication usage, dosage, and potential side effects. Consult with physicians and other healthcare staff on drug therapies and interactions.
Inventory management: Manage and maintain stock of medications, including checking for expiry dates and ensuring proper storage. This may involve ordering current stock and tracking controlled substances.
Record keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including medication history and adverse reactions.
Billing and administration: Prepare bills for patients, verify order entries, and complete other administrative tasks required for the pharmacy's operation.
Key skills and qualifications
Education: A degree in Pharmacy (B. Pharm or D. Pharm) from a recognized institution and registration with the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) are typically required.
Experience: Previous experience in a hospital or clinical setting is often preferred, though some roles may be open to freshers.
Technical skills: Proficiency in basic computer operations for billing and record-keeping.
Soft skills: Robust communication skills to interact effectively with patients and medical staff, and the ability to work accurately and efficiently.
Regulatory knowledge: Must adhere to all legal rules, regulations, and procedures governing pharmaceutical practice.
