Prepare Materials: Clamp, hold, tack-weld, heat-bend, or bolt component parts together to obtain required configurations.
Execute Welds: Operate MIG welding equipment to fuse metal pieces in flat, vertical, horizontal, or overhead positions.
Read Blueprints: Interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and technical drawings to plan layout and welding sequences.
Inspect Quality: Examine welds for bead size, penetration, defects, cracks, or porosity using gauges and visual checks.
Finish Products: Clean and smooth out welds using grinders, wire brushes, and slag hammers to meet aesthetic standards.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Education: High school diploma, GED, or completion of a vocational welding program.
Certifications: AWS (American Welding Society) MIG certification is highly preferred or required by most shops.
Material Knowledge: Experience working with carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminium.
Physical Demands: Ability to lift up to 25 kg, maintain a steady hand, and stand or kneel for long periods.
Safety Awareness: Strict adherence to safety protocols, including the consistent use of welding helmets, respirators, and leather gear.
