Windows Middleware & AWS
Qualification
- 3-5 years of experience in Application Engineering / Middleware Support for Windows-based web applications hosted on IIS, with exposure to AWS public cloud environments.
• Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft IIS site/application configuration, app pools, bindings, authentication basics, URL Rewrite, request filtering, compression, and troubleshooting HTTP 4xx/5xx and performance issues.
• Positive understanding of application hosting for .NET/.NET Core on IIS (runtime dependencies/hosting bundle, app settings/config, services integration).
• Working knowledge of PowerShell scripting for application/middleware automation and troubleshooting (IIS/app pool control, config checks, log collection, deployment validation, certificate expiry checks).
• Experience with CI/CD using GitHub Actions — workflow execution/troubleshooting, artifact/version handling, environment promotions, deployment verification, and rollback support.
• Working knowledge of AWS services used for application hosting/operations — EC2 (Windows) for IIS hosting and/or exposure to ALB basics, IAM fundamentals, CloudWatch logs/metrics/alarms, and snapshots/backup concepts as applicable to the app layer.
• Working knowledge of TLS/SSL certificates at the application layer (IIS bindings, chain validation, renewals/rotation coordination).
• Strong troubleshooting, incident management, and communication skills; ability to work with developers, architects, cloud/platform, security, and network teams.
• Plus: knowledge/exposure to automation tools (Ansible/Terraform/CloudFormation or equivalents), Docker, and Linux fundamentals (basic commands, file permissions, networking concepts).
• Plus: exposure to integrating deployments with CI/CD across heterogeneous environments (Windows + Linux workloads).
• Exposure to responsible use of AI tools to speed troubleshooting, draft scripts/runbooks, summarize logs/incidents,
and improve documentation—while validating outputs and following data/security guidelines.
Responsibility
- Manage and support middleware/application hosting on IIS across production and non-production environments (sites, app pools, bindings, configurations, and release readiness).
• Deploy and operate application releases through GitHub Actions pipelines—supporting deployments, troubleshooting failures, validating releases, and coordinating rollbacks when needed.
• Perform application-level troubleshooting across the stack (IIS, configs, dependencies, connectivity, certificates, load balancer health behavior) and restore services within SLA.
• Own and optimize IIS configuration and performance (timeouts, recycling strategy, connection limits, compression, logging, and tuning based on observed behavior).
• Build and maintain PowerShell-based automation for middleware operations (health checks, IIS/app pool actions, config drift checks, log packaging, deployment smoke tests).
• Monitor application and middleware health using available tooling (CloudWatch logs/alarms and/or enterprise monitoring/APM tools); analyze trends and reduce repeat incidents.
• Support AWS application operations for the hosting pattern in use (e.g., EC2 Windows + IIS, ALB target health checks, coordination for security group/dependency requirements, CloudWatch observability).
• Manage certificate lifecycle activities for IIS (install/bind/validate) and coordinate renewals/rotations with security/PKI teams.
• Perform root cause analysis (RCA) for recurring incidents and drive permanent fixes (configuration improvements, automation, pipeline enhancements).
• Create and maintain runbooks, SOPs, deployment checklists, and knowledge articles to standardize operations and enable faster recovery.
• Collaborate with application teams to onboard applications to IIS hosting, define runtime/config requirements, and improve operability (logging, metrics, health endpoints).
