Key Responsibilities:
1. Leadership & Team Management
- Independently lead and manage a team of design engineers and draftsmen engaged in bulk material handling and utility system design.
- Allocate design tasks, monitor progress, and ensure timely and quality deliverables.
- Mentor and guide team members for technical competence and professional growth.
2. Design Ownership & Core Engineering
- Overall responsibility for the core design, detailing, and engineering activities for bulk material handling projects.
- Develop and validate process flow diagrams (PFDs), system layouts, and general arrangement (GA) drawings.
- Ensure design conformance with project specifications, standards, and functional requirements.
3. Technical Documentation & Specification Development
- Prepare and review material specification sheets, equipment datasheets, and technical requisitions for bought-out items and key mechanical components.
- Ensure accurate and comprehensive Bill of Quantities (BOQ) for all designed systems and subsystems.
- Maintain standardization and consistency in engineering documentation and deliverables.
4. Design Review & Coordination
- Review and approve vendor/sub-vendor drawings and technical documents.
- Provide detailed technical comments and coordinate resolution of discrepancies.
- Liaise with internal departments (Projects, Procurement, Quality, and Site) and external stakeholders (Clients, Consultants, Vendors) for seamless design execution.
- Participate in internal and client design review meetings, ensuring continuous improvement and compliance with feedback.
5. Project & Site Interface
- Visit project sites to collect design inputs, verify feasibility, and resolve design-related issues during project execution.
- Provide technical support to project and commissioning teams as required.
- Incorporate site feedback into future designs for optimization and reliability improvement.
6. Quality & Compliance
- Ensure adherence to relevant national/international design codes and standards (such as IS, CEMA, DIN, etc.).
- Implement internal quality checks and validation processes for all engineering outputs.
- Drive continual improvement initiatives in design methodology, tools, and templates.
7. Reporting & Communication
- Provide regular progress updates, technical status reports, and design-related feedback to the Project Head and senior management.
- Support in client presentations, technical discussions, and documentation required for approvals.
Skills & Competencies:
- Robust knowledge of bulk material handling systems, conveyors, crushers, feeders, hoppers, chutes, silos, and related utilities.
- Hands-on experience with AutoCAD / SolidWorks / Creo or other 3D design tools.
- Familiarity with material flow analysis, mechanical design calculations, and equipment selection criteria.
- Excellent communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines under pressure.
Preferred Experience:
- Design and engineering experience in Coal Handling Systems, or similar bulk material handling applications in power or process industries.
- Exposure to EPC projects and interaction with clients, consultants, and third-party vendors.
