Junior Site Engineer Build
Role Purpose
The Junior Site Engineer is part of Unearth's Build / Project Coordination team and is responsible for maintaining weekly visibility and control over the Time, Cost and Quality of projects where the client has opted for Unearth's Build service.
This is not a full-time site supervision role. The contractor and their site team remain responsible for day-to-day site execution.
The Unearth Site Engineer acts as the weekly eyes and ears of the project, visiting the site, identifying deviations, documenting progress, coordinating with the project team, and ensuring that issues requiring attention are surfaced and followed through.
The goal is simple:
Every week, know where the project stands, identify what is going wrong, and make sure the right action happens before a small problem becomes a large one.
Core Responsibilities
1. Weekly Site Visit
Visit assigned project sites approximately once every week.
The visit should result in a clear understanding of:
What was supposed to happen What actually happened Why there is a difference What needs to happen next.
2. Time Control
Support the project team in keeping projects on schedule.
The role is not expected to create complex project schedules independently, but must be able to read, understand and challenge a schedule.
3. Quality Control
Act as an additional quality-control layer between Unearth's design intent and site execution.
Where an issue is identified, the engineer should:
Observe Document Communicate Follow up.
The engineer is not expected to personally rectify the work.
4. Cost Awareness
The role will support cost control by identifying site-level issues that can create unnecessary expenditure.
The Site Engineer does not independently approve additional costs or variations.
5. Site Documentation
Maintain accurate project records after every site visit.
Documentation should be short,
factual and useful rather than administrative for its own sake.
6. Coordination
Coordinate between the various people involved in project delivery,
The engineer should ensure that site issues do not simply get reported they are closed out.
What This Role Is NOT
The Junior Site Engineer is not:
- The contractor's full-time site supervisor.
- Responsible for managing the contractor's labour force.
- Responsible for daily attendance or labour productivity.
- Authorised to independently approve design changes.
- Authorised to approve additional project costs.
- The sole person responsible for project delivery.
- Expected to be physically present at the site every day.
The contractor remains responsible for day-to-day execution.
Unearth's responsibility is to provide structured oversight, coordination and control.
Weekly Operating Rhythm
The expected rhythm is:
Before Visit
Review previous week's actions and current project programme.
Site Visit
Inspect progress, quality, materials and outstanding issues.
After Visit
Update project records and action tracker.
Internal Coordination
Escalate issues requiring design, cost or management decisions.
Follow-up
Check that agreed actions are actually progressing at the next review.
Preferred candidate profile
Skills & Qualifications
Required
- Diploma / Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction or related field.
- 13 years of relevant site / construction experience.
- Ability to read architectural and basic structural drawings.
- Basic understanding of construction processes and sequencing.
- Ability to identify obvious workmanship and execution issues.
- Basic knowledge of MS Excel / Google Sheets.
- Valuable documentation and reporting skills.
- Willingness to travel to project sites.
Preferred
- Experience working on residential projects.
- Exposure to premium residential construction.
- Basic understanding of BOQs and quantities.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD.
- Familiarity with project management tools.
- Understanding of finishes, materials and detailing.
- Experience coordinating with contractors.

Most importantly, we are looking for someone who does not simply report what they saw.
We want someone who asks:
"What is the risk, what needs to happen, who needs to do it, and by when?"
Key Measure of Success
The measure of this role is not the number of site visits completed.
It is:
How much better does Unearth's visibility and control of the project become because this person is involved?
Reporting
Reports to: Build Lead / Build Coordinator
Works closely with: Design Team, Quantity Surveyor, Contractor and Project Team
Primary responsibility: Weekly Time Cost Quality control across assigned Build projects.
