Role & responsibilities

1. Independently assess, diagnose, stabilize, and manage patients presenting with acute and life-threatening medical conditions.
2. Perform timely triage and clinical prioritization of emergency patients based on the severity of their condition.
3. Manage a wide range of emergencies, including medical, surgical, trauma, cardiac, respiratory, neurological, pediatric, and toxicological emergencies as per competency.
4. Lead and participate in BLS/ACLS resuscitation, cardiac arrest management, and other emergency response situations.
5. Perform emergency procedures such as airway management, endotracheal intubation, suturing, wound management, vascular access, splinting, and other procedures within the scope of practice.
6. Evaluate and interpret laboratory, radiological, ECG, and other diagnostic investigations to support timely clinical decision-making.
7. Initiate appropriate emergency treatment, medications, and interventions based on established clinical protocols.
8. Continuously monitor and reassess critically ill or unstable patients and promptly modify the treatment plan as required.
9. Coordinate with specialists, intensivists, surgeons, anesthetists, and other clinical teams for appropriate patient management.
10. Ensure timely admission, ICU transfer, surgical referral, interventional procedures, or specialty consultation for patients requiring further care.
11. Make appropriate and secure discharge decisions for patients who do not require hospitalization, with clear treatment, medication, and follow-up instructions.
12. Ensure appropriate clinical handover of patients being transferred to the ICU, wards, OT,



diagnostic areas, or other healthcare facilities.
13. Maintain complete and accurate documentation of patient assessment, diagnosis, treatment, procedures, investigations, and clinical outcomes.
14. Communicate effectively with patients and attendants regarding the patient's condition, treatment plan, investigations, risks, and disposition.
15. Handle difficult and sensitive situations in the ER professionally and escalate medico-legal or high-risk cases to the appropriate authority.
16. Ensure compliance with infection prevention and control practices, emergency protocols, patient-safety standards, and hospital policies.
17. Participate in Code Blue, trauma response, mass-casualty management, disaster preparedness, and emergency drills.
18. Support and mentor junior doctors, medical officers, residents, and other ER staff in emergency assessment and management.
19. Participate in clinical audits, morbidity and mortality reviews, quality-improvement projects, protocol development, and continuing medical education.
20. Ensure smooth day-to-day clinical functioning of the Emergency Room and contribute to maintaining high standards of patient care, professionalism, and service quality.

Required Qualifications

- MBBS from a recognized medical institution.
- MD/DNB in Emergency Medicine or an equivalent recognized postgraduate qualification preferred.
- 34 years of relevant experience in Emergency Medicine/Emergency Room services.
- Valid medical registration with the applicable medical council.
- Current BLS and ACLS certification preferred/required as per hospital policy.
