Job Summary

Hotel Tamarind is seeking a skilled and passionate Baker to join our culinary team. The Baker will be responsible for preparing a wide range of breads, pastries, desserts, and baked goods for the hotel's restaurants, banquets, room service, and special events, ensuring consistent quality, presentation, and adherence to hygiene standards.

Key Responsibilities

- Prepare and bake breads, rolls, croissants, cakes, cookies, pastries, and desserts according to standard recipes and hotel quality standards
- Plan daily production based on occupancy, banquet events, and outlet requirements
- Monitor stock levels of baking ingredients and place requisitions as needed
- Maintain freshness and quality control of all baked items
- Decorate and present cakes and pastries for special occasions (weddings, birthdays, corporate events)
- Ensure proper storage, labeling, and rotation of ingredients (FIFO)
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of the bakery section in line with food safety regulations (HACCP)
- Operate and maintain baking equipment (ovens, mixers, proofers) safely and efficiently
- Collaborate with the pastry chef and kitchen team on menu development and new recipes
- Assist in costing and portion control to minimize wastage
- Train and guide junior bakers/kitchen trainees as required

Requirements





- Diploma/Certificate in Bakery & Confectionery, Culinary Arts, or related field
- Minimum 2–4 years of experience as a Baker, preferably in a hotel or high-volume bakery
- Strong knowledge of baking techniques, ingredients, and equipment
- Understanding of food safety and hygiene standards
- Ability to work early morning shifts, weekends, and holidays as required
- Attention to detail and solid sense of creativity/presentation
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Good communication and teamwork skills

Preferred Skills

- Experience with international breads, viennoiserie, and plated desserts
- Basic knowledge of allergen management and dietary-specific baking (gluten-free, vegan, etc.)
- Familiarity with kitchen inventory/POS systems
