Job Summary
The General Manager (GM) of Fleet Maintenance will lead and oversee the entire fleet maintenance function. This role requires a strategic leader to ensure maximum vehicle availability, reliability, and safety, while maintaining statutory compliance and optimizing costs. The GM will be instrumental in delivering world-class maintenance standards and driving operational excellence across multiple workshops and regional teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement comprehensive preventive and predictive maintenance programs to maximize vehicle uptime and operational availability.
- Oversee multiple workshops and regional maintenance teams, ensuring efficient manpower planning, technician productivity, and adherence to 5S standards.
- Manage vehicle health, optimize spare parts inventory, and drive initiatives to reduce maintenance cost per kilometer.
- Prepare and manage annual maintenance budgets, controlling repair expenses, spare consumption, and specific cost areas like tyres, batteries, and fuel.
- Ensure strict adherence to statutory compliance, ISO standards (9001, 14001, 45001), and conduct regular maintenance safety audits.
- Lead and develop a high-performance maintenance team, including Managers, Engineers, Supervisors, and Technicians, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and succession planning.
- Evaluate, develop, and manage vendor relationships, negotiating contracts and monitoring service quality.
- Drive the implementation and utilization of technology, including CMMS/Fleet Management Software, for data analysis, KPI tracking, and predictive maintenance.
Qualifications
- Skills: Fleet Maintenance, Diesel Engine Systems, Bus & Truck Maintenance, Electrical & Electronic Diagnostics, Hydraulic & Pneumatic Systems, Preventive & Predictive Maintenance, Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Failure Mode Analysis (FMEA), Workshop Management, Budgeting & Cost Control, Strategic Planning, Team Leadership, Vendor Negotiation, Performance Management, Change Management, Problem Solving, Advanced MS Excel, ERP Systems (SAP/Oracle), Fleet Management Software, CMMS.
- Education: B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical/Automobile Engineering. An MBA in Operations is preferred. Certifications in Fleet Management, Lean, TPM, or Six Sigma are an added advantage.
