Position summary

We're seeking a highly experienced Principal Software Engineer to drive the architecture, design, and

delivery of our Enterprise Data platform. This role combines hands-on engineering, technical

leadership, cloud architecture, and team mentorship.

You're passionate about modern Java and Python development, cloud-native engineering, and

scalable microservicesand about turning Big Data and analytics engineering into products that power

research and learning at scale. You'll partner closely with Product and Architecture leadership to set

the technical direction for our data platform while mentoring engineers across the team.

Key responsibilities

- Lead the design and development of enterprise-scale Enterprise Data applications using Java,

Python, and Spring Boot.

- Architect and implement scalable microservices and OpenAPI-based RESTful APIs.
- Define the technical strategy for Big Data and analytics engineering, including pipelines, streaming,

and data warehousing.

- Drive cloud-native development on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and/or other cloud platforms

such as AWS, with a preference for GCP, leveraging services such as:

GKE or Cloud Run (or equivalent AWS ECS/EKS)

– Cloud Functions (or equivalent AWS Lambda)

– Apigee or API Gateway

– Cloud Storage (or equivalent AWS S3)

– Cloud SQL, Firestore, or Bigtable (or equivalent AWS RDS/DynamoDB)

– Serverless BigQuery for large-scale analytics

- Own database design decisions across relational, NoSQL, and analytical data stores.
- Define engineering standards, coding practices, and architectural patterns for system design at





scale.

- Partner with Product Owners, Architects, and stakeholders on technical strategy and roadmap

planning.

- Mentor engineers across multiple experience levels.
- Drive DevOps maturity, CI/CD automation, observability, resiliency, and operational excellence.

- Lead production support, root-cause analysis, and performance optimization initiatives.

Required qualifications

- 8+ years of software engineering experience.
- Strong expertise in:

– Java

– Python

– Spring Boot

– Spring Security

– Spring Cloud

– REST API development and OpenAPI specification

– Microservices architecture

- Deep understanding of system design for large-scale, distributed systems.
- Proven experience architecting Big Data and analytics engineering solutions—pipelines,

streaming, and data lakes or warehouses—at enterprise scale.

- Strong database design expertise across relational, NoSQL, and analytical/columnar stores.
- Experience with event-driven architectures using Kafka.
- Deep cloud-native experience on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and/or other cloud platforms such

as AWS, including serverless architectures, with a strong preference for GCP.

- Hands-on experience with:

– Docker

– Kubernetes

– Terraform

– CI/CD pipelines

- Experience with relational and NoSQL databases.
- Strong frontend experience with:

– React

– TypeScript

– Contemporary JavaScript frameworks

- Strong understanding of:

– System design

– Scalability

– Security

– Observability

– DevOps practices

- Experience mentoring engineers and leading technical initiatives.

Preferred qualifications

- Experience with Elasticsearch at scale for search and indexing.
- Experience with GCP serverless services and BigQuery for large-scale analytics.
- Experience with OpenTelemetry, Grafana, and Prometheus for observability.
- Experience implementing platform modernization initiatives.
- Experience with domain-driven design and distributed systems.
