Responsible for ensuring in-process quality of sheet-metal stamped and welded components by controlling process parameters, conducting inspections, identifying abnormalities, implementing corrective actions, and ensuring compliance with customer and IATF 16949 requirements.
- Conduct first-piece, in-process and final inspection of sheet-metal components.
- Verify critical dimensions using Vernier, Micrometer, Height Gauge, Profile Projector, Gauges and other measuring instruments.
- Monitor critical-to-quality (CTQ) dimensions, hole position, burr, dent, crack, wrinkle, deformation and other stamping defects.
- Ensure process parameters and approved standards are followed at each operation.
- Control rejection, rework and line abnormalities and initiate immediate containment.
- Coordinate with Production, Tool Room and Maintenance for correction of process/tool-related defects.
- Monitor tool condition and identify defects related to die wear, misalignment, improper setting and tool damage.
- Conduct inspection of CO/MIG welding, projection welding, spot welding and assembly operations.
- Verify weld parameters such as current, voltage, weld time, pressure, electrode condition and welding sequence.
- Monitor weld defects including spatter, porosity, undercut, burn-through, lack of fusion, excess weld, weld miss and nut/stud welding defects.
- Conduct weld strength, torque, peel/chisel and other applicable tests.
- Ensure correct fitment, orientation and location of nuts, studs, brackets and welded components.
- Monitor leakage testing wherever applicable and ensure reaction to leakage failures.
- Ensure implementation of Control Plan, Process Flow Diagram, PFMEA and Work Instructions.
- Carry out patrol/in-process inspection as per defined frequency.
- Ensure proper identification and segregation of OK, NG, rework and rejected parts.
- Stop the process and escalate immediately in case of major/critical quality abnormalities.
- Maintain inspection records, rejection data and process monitoring records.
- Ensure traceability of raw material, process and finished components.
- Support investigation of customer complaints and field failures.
- Prepare and support 8D, Why-Why Analysis, Fishbone, 5 Why, CAPA and corrective action reports.
- Identify Occurrence, Escape/Detection and Systemic Root Causes.
- Implement and verify permanent corrective actions.
- Monitor effectiveness of corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Drive reduction in internal rejection, rework, customer complaints and PPM.
- Prepare and monitor Pareto analysis, rejection trends and quality KPI/MIS.
- Identify recurring defects and initiate improvement projects.
- Support Poka-Yoke, error-proofing and process control improvements.
- Conduct layered/process audits and ensure closure of audit findings
- Support preparation/revision of Control Plan, PFMEA, Inspection Standards, SOP/WI and check sheets.
- Ensure calibration status of measuring and testing equipment.
- Support PPAP, APQP and current product development activities where applicable.
- Participate in internal, customer and certification audits..
