Purpose/Objective
The Head Surveyor will be responsible for leading all mine surveying activities for both Opencast and Underground Mining Operations at Gare Palma.
The role involves statutory mine surveys, reserve estimation, mine planning support, volumetric measurements, boundary management, GIS mapping, compliance with DGMS regulations, and ensuring accurate survey data for operational and strategic decision-making.
Key Responsibilities of Role
Mine Surveying & Mapping - Lead and manage all survey activities for both opencast and underground mining operations.
- Conduct topographical, cadastral, geological, and statutory surveys in accordance with mining regulations.
- Establish and maintain survey control networks and benchmarks.
- Prepare and update mine plans, sections, contours, and digital maps.
- Ensure accurate measurement of excavation, overburden, coal production, and stockpiles.
Underground Mine Surveying - Supervise underground traversing, shaft surveys, gallery alignment, and subsidence monitoring.
- Ensure accurate survey control for underground development and production activities.
- Monitor pillar extraction, panel development, and mine advancement.
- Maintain statutory underground plans and records.
Opencast Mine Surveying - Carry out pit surveys, dump surveys, haul road alignments, and volumetric calculations.
- Support mine planning teams with accurate survey data for production and scheduling.
- Monitor pit progression, slope stability, and boundary compliance.
Technology & Digital Survey Management - Manage modern surveying equipment including: - DGPS - Total Station - Drone Survey Systems - LiDAR - Laser Scanners - Utilize software such as:
- AutoCAD - Surpac - Minescape - ArcGIS - Carlson - Datamine - Drive digitalization initiatives in mine surveying and geospatial data management.
Compliance & Statutory Requirements - Ensure compliance with MMR, DGMS, CMR, MCDR, and other applicable mining regulations.
- Maintain statutory mine plans and survey records.
- Support audits, inspections, and regulatory submissions.
- Coordinate with DGMS, IBM, State Mining Departments, and other regulatory bodies.
Mine Planning Support - Provide survey inputs for short-term and long-term mine planning.
- Assist geology and mine planning teams in reserve estimation and reconciliation.
- Monitor mine boundaries and leasehold areas.
- Support production reconciliation and reporting.
Team Management - Lead, mentor, and develop survey teams across underground and opencast operations.
- Establish survey standards, SOPs, and best practices.
- Ensure safety compliance and capability development within the survey team.
Technical Competencies
Total Station Surveying,Drone Surveying & Aerial Mapping,Cadastral & Topographical Surveys,Digital Terrain Model (DTM) Generation
Qualifications and Experience
Educational Qualification - Bachelor's Degree / Diploma in Mining Engineering, Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or equivalent.
- Surveyor's Certificate of Competency will be preferred.
- Certification in GIS, Remote Sensing, Drone Surveying, or Mine Surveying is desirable.
Experience - 15-25 years of experience in mining operations.
- Mandatory experience in both Underground and Opencast Mines.
- Experience in Coal Mines is highly preferred.
- Solid exposure to statutory mine surveying, mine planning support, GIS, and digital survey technologies.
- Experience in leading survey teams at large-scale mining operations.
