Role & responsibilities
1. Provide comprehensive medical care and management to critically ill patients admitted to the ICU.
2. Conduct timely clinical assessment, diagnosis, and stabilization of patients with life-threatening and complex medical conditions.
3. Manage critically ill patients with respiratory, cardiac, neurological, renal, infectious, metabolic, and multi-organ disorders.
4. Lead and participate in Code Blue, cardiac arrest management, BLS/ACLS, and other emergency resuscitation procedures.
5. Manage patients requiring invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation, including ventilator initiation, monitoring, and weaning.
6. Perform and supervise critical-care procedures such as central venous catheterization, arterial line placement, airway management, intubation, and other procedures within competency.
7. Monitor hemodynamic, respiratory, neurological, and other critical-care parameters and modify treatment plans based on clinical response.
8. Review and interpret laboratory investigations, ABG, ECG, imaging, microbiology, and other diagnostic results relevant to critical-care management.
9. Develop individualized treatment plans in coordination with the multidisciplinary ICU team.
10. Coordinate with specialists, surgeons, anesthetists, cardiologists, nephrologists, neurologists, and other consultants for comprehensive patient management.
11. Conduct regular ICU rounds and ensure timely reassessment and documentation of critically ill patients.
12. Manage patients with sepsis, septic shock, ARDS, acute respiratory failure, multi-organ dysfunction, and other critical conditions according to accepted clinical protocols.
13. Ensure appropriate antimicrobial therapy,
fluid management, vasopressor support, sedation, analgesia, nutrition, and other critical-care interventions as clinically indicated.
14. Assess patients for ICU admission, step-down transfer, referral, or discharge in coordination with the treating team.
15. Communicate effectively with patients' families regarding diagnosis, prognosis, treatment plans, risks, and clinical progress while maintaining empathy and professionalism.
16. Ensure accurate and complete documentation of clinical assessment, treatment plans, procedures, progress notes, and discharge summaries.
17. Promote compliance with infection prevention and control, antimicrobial stewardship, patient-safety, and ICU quality protocols.
18. Supervise and guide junior doctors, residents, nurses, respiratory therapists, and other critical-care staff in clinical management and emergency procedures.
19. Participate in clinical audits, morbidity and mortality meetings, quality-improvement initiatives, training programs, and continuing medical education.
20. Ensure smooth clinical functioning of the ICU and maintain high standards of patient care, ethical practice, documentation, and regulatory compliance.
Required Qualifications
- MBBS from a recognized medical institution.
- MD/DNB in Critical Care Medicine / Anaesthesiology / General Medicine / Emergency Medicine or an equivalent recognized postgraduate qualification, as applicable.
- 34 years of relevant experience in Critical Care/ICU as a Consultant Intensivist or equivalent role.
- Valid medical registration with the applicable medical council.
- Current BLS and ACLS certification preferred/required as per hospital policy.
