Role & responsibilities
- Manage, administer, monitor, and maintain enterprise database environments across development, testing, and production.
- Install, configure, upgrade, patch, and migrate database servers and instances.
- Ensure high availability, reliability, scalability, and optimal performance of database systems.
- Perform database performance tuning, query optimization, capacity planning, and resource management.
- Design and maintain backup, recovery, replication, and disaster recovery strategies.
- Manage Oracle RAC, ASM, Data Guard, RMAN, GoldenGate, or equivalent HA/DR technologies as applicable.
- Monitor database health, availability, storage, CPU, memory, sessions, locks, and other performance indicators.
- Troubleshoot complex database issues, production incidents, connectivity problems, and performance bottlenecks.
- Perform database upgrades, migrations, patching, refreshes, cloning, and environment provisioning.
- Implement database security controls, user access management, roles, privileges, encryption, and auditing.
- Automate routine DBA activities using Shell scripting, Python, PowerShell, or other automation tools.
- Support cloud database environments across OCI, AWS, Azure, or other cloud platforms.
- Collaborate with application, infrastructure, DevOps, security, and development teams to resolve database-related issues.
- Participate in 247 production support, incident management, problem management, and on-call activities where required.
- Conduct root-cause analysis and implement preventive measures for recurring database incidents.
- Maintain database documentation, operational procedures, architecture diagrams, and recovery plans.
- Follow ITIL, change-management, security, compliance, and organizational database standards.
- Mentor junior DBAs and provide technical guidance on database administration best practices
Preferred candidate profile
- 5 to 10 years of hands-on experience as a Database Administrator, preferably in large-scale enterprise or 247 production environments.
- Strong expertise in Oracle Database Administration with experience in Oracle 19c/21c or equivalent versions.
- Hands-on experience with Oracle RAC, ASM, Data Guard, RMAN, OEM, GoldenGate, and database performance tuning.
- Solid SQL and PL/SQL knowledge with expertise in query optimization and troubleshooting.
- Experience administering one or more additional database platforms such as SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or MySQL is preferred.
- Solid understanding of backup and recovery, high availability, disaster recovery, replication, database security, and capacity planning.
- Experience with Linux/Unix administration and Shell scripting.
- Exposure to OCI, AWS, Azure, or cloud database services is an advantage.
- Experience with database automation, monitoring tools, CI/CD, and DevOps practices is preferred.
- Solid troubleshooting, analytical, and root-cause-analysis skills.
- Experience handling critical production incidents and working under defined SLAs.
- Good understanding of ITIL processes, including incident, problem, change, and release management.
- Ability to work effectively with application developers, infrastructure teams, architects, DevOps, and business stakeholders.
- Strong communication, documentation, collaboration, and stakeholder-management skills.
- Ability to mentor junior database administrators and take ownership of complex database environments.
- OCP, Microsoft, PostgreSQL, AWS, Azure, or OCI certifications are an advantage.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline; master's degree is an advantage.
