Role & responsibilities

1. Conduct comprehensive visual acuity and refractive assessments for patients.
2. Perform objective and subjective refraction and determine appropriate corrective-lens requirements.
3. Conduct preliminary eye examinations and identify signs requiring further evaluation by an ophthalmologist.
4. Perform diagnostic tests such as tonometry, keratometry, pachymetry, color vision testing, and visual field assessment as applicable.
5. Assist ophthalmologists with diagnostic procedures and patient assessments as required.
6. Perform and assist with specialized eye tests based on department protocols and individual competency.
7. Identify and appropriately refer patients with suspected ocular abnormalities, eye diseases, or conditions requiring specialist consultation.
8. Conduct pre-operative and post-operative vision assessments as directed by the ophthalmology team.
9. Assist in screening patients for conditions such as glaucoma, cataract, diabetic eye disease, and other common ocular disorders.
10. Educate patients regarding eye health, vision care, spectacle/contact-lens use, and preventive eye-care practices.
11. Provide guidance to patients regarding appropriate corrective lenses and optical options based on their prescription and clinical requirements.
12. Maintain accurate and complete patient records, examination findings, prescriptions,



and diagnostic test results.
13. Ensure proper calibration, cleanliness, maintenance, and safe handling of optometric and diagnostic equipment.
14. Follow infection prevention and control practices while conducting eye examinations and handling equipment.
15. Coordinate effectively with ophthalmologists, nurses, technicians, front-office staff, and other healthcare professionals.
16. Explain examination procedures clearly to patients and ensure their comfort and cooperation during testing.
17. Maintain confidentiality and ensure secure handling of patient medical and personal information.
18. Participate in eye-screening camps, awareness programs, preventive eye-care initiatives, and community outreach activities as required.
19. Follow hospital policies, clinical protocols, quality standards, and patient-safety requirements.
20. Participate in training, audits, quality-improvement activities, and continuing career development programs.

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor of Optometry (B.Optom) or equivalent recognized qualification.
- Relevant registration with the applicable professional authority, wherever required.
- 03 years of experience in optometry/eye-care services.
- Freshers with relevant clinical internship experience may be considered.
