Role & responsibilities

1. Evaluate patients with suspected or confirmed malignancies through comprehensive clinical assessment, medical history, examination, and review of diagnostic findings.
2. Diagnose and stage cancer in collaboration with pathology, radiology, and other relevant specialties.
3. Develop individualized treatment plans based on cancer type, stage, patient condition, clinical guidelines, and multidisciplinary recommendations.
4. Provide and supervise systemic cancer treatment, including chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, hormonal therapy, and other appropriate treatments within the scope of expertise.
5. Review and interpret laboratory investigations, pathology reports, imaging studies, molecular/genetic test results, and other relevant diagnostic information.
6. Monitor patients during treatment and assess treatment response, disease progression, and overall clinical condition.
7. Identify, prevent, and manage treatment-related complications and adverse effects, including chemotherapy-related toxicities and oncological emergencies.
8. Manage common oncological emergencies such as febrile neutropenia, tumor lysis syndrome, hypercalcemia, spinal cord compression, and superior vena cava syndrome as clinically appropriate.
9. Coordinate with surgeons, radiation oncologists, pathologists, radiologists, palliative-care specialists, and other multidisciplinary teams for comprehensive cancer management.
10. Participate in multidisciplinary tumor board meetings and contribute to treatment planning and case discussions.
11. Counsel patients and their families regarding diagnosis, prognosis, treatment options, expected outcomes, potential side effects,



and follow-up requirements.
12. Obtain and document appropriate informed consent for chemotherapy, systemic therapies, procedures, and other treatments as per hospital policy.
13. Ensure secure prescribing, preparation, administration, and monitoring of systemic anticancer therapies in coordination with nursing and pharmacy teams.
14. Monitor patients for treatment toxicity and modify, hold, or discontinue treatment when clinically indicated.
15. Provide appropriate supportive and palliative care, including pain and symptom management, nutrition support, and end-of-life care coordination where required.
16. Ensure appropriate follow-up and surveillance of patients after completion of active cancer treatment.
17. Maintain accurate and complete medical records, treatment plans, chemotherapy protocols, progress notes, and discharge summaries.
18. Ensure compliance with oncology treatment protocols, patient-safety standards, infection-control practices, and applicable regulatory requirements.
19. Guide and support junior doctors, residents, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals involved in oncology care.
20. Participate in clinical audits, quality-improvement initiatives, cancer-care programs, academic activities, research, and continuing medical education.

Required Qualifications

- MBBS from a recognized medical institution.
- MD/DNB in Medical Oncology or DM/DNB in Medical Oncology or an equivalent recognized postgraduate qualification, as applicable.
- 34 years of relevant experience in oncology/cancer care.
- Valid medical registration with the applicable medical council.
- BLS/ACLS certification is preferred as per hospital requirements.ate profile
