Remote: Remote
About MAVIMAVI places experienced finance and accounting professionals into senior, high-ownership roles at high-growth US companies. We maintain a deliberately high bar on both sides of the placement. The companies we partner with are venture-backed and private equity-backed businesses building modern finance organizations, and the professionals we represent are operators with a track record of owning the numbers rather than supporting them from a distance. The roles we place are embedded positions within the finance function itself. Our professionals work alongside founders, CEOs, and senior leadership on the work that determines whether a business can close its books with confidence, satisfy its auditors, raise its next round, and scale. Our team has built and scaled finance functions at companies including Lyft, Ramp, and SoftBank. We remain closely involved throughout the relationship, from role alignment and interview preparation through onboarding, placement, and long-term career development. The RoleWe are seeking an experienced Chief Accountant to own the accounting function of a high-growth US company, working remotely from India. This is the senior accounting seat in the business, and it remains substantively hands-on. You will be accountable for the accuracy of the financial statements, the discipline of the close, the strength of the control environment, and the readiness of the company for its audit. Where the company has outgrown the processes that carried it this far — a close held together by one person's memory, a control environment that exists in principle rather than in practice, a reconciliation that has not been cleared in three quarters — you will be the person who rebuilds them. You will work directly with the CEO, the US finance leadership, and the department heads whose decisions depend on your numbers. A significant part of the role is translating accounting information into something people outside finance can act on, and doing so before they ask for it.Because you will be the most senior accounting person in the company and located outside the United States, the role calls for someone who operates well with autonomy, communicates proactively rather than on request, and holds both the technical detail and the operating picture without a layer above them to catch what falls through. What You'll OwnThe Close and Financial ReportingThe close. Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close, with full accountability for the calendar, the quality of the output, and the cycle time. The financial statements. Own the preparation of the P&L;, balance sheet, and cash flow statement under US GAAP, and stand behind those numbers in front of leadership and auditors.Technical accounting. Research, document, and conclude on technical positions, and maintain the memoranda that support them.Consolidation. Own multi-entity accounting, intercompany balances, eliminations, and foreign currency translation across the group structure.Controls and CompliancePolicies and controls. Establish and maintain accounting policies,
internal controls, approval workflows, and reporting standards appropriate to the company's stage, and enforce them once established.Documentation. Build and maintain the close checklist, process narratives, and standard operating procedures that allow the function to operate without depending on any single individual.Risk communication. Identify accounting, control, and compliance risks early, and bring them to senior stakeholders with a recommendation attached rather than a question.AuditThe annual audit. Lead the audit or review end to end, including auditor management, PBC preparation, and resolution of findings through to close-out.External partners. Manage the relationship with external auditors, tax advisers, and outsourced accounting partners, holding each to agreed standards and deadlines.Accounting OperationsThe transactional cycle. Own the general ledger, AP, AR, payroll accounting, and expense processing, holding each to defined turnaround and accuracy standards.Reconciliations. Own the balance sheet reconciliation process and the resolution of ageing items, rather than the reporting of them.Business partnership. Provide leadership and FP&A; with the reporting packages, variance analysis, and root-cause explanation that budgeting and forecasting depend on.Team and SystemsThe accounting team. Review, mentor, and develop the accounting team, and raise the standard of the work that reaches you.Finance systems. Lead ERP selection, implementation, and migration, alongside AP, expense, and close-management automation.Process design. Build accounting processes that improve accuracy, visibility, and cycle time as the company grows, rather than processes that break at the next stage. What We're Looking For8–10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including direct review and development of an accounting teamExperience operating as a Financial Controller, Assistant Controller, or senior Accounting Manager, with demonstrated ownership of the close and the financial statements on an independent basisStrong command of US GAAP, including revenue recognition (ASC 606) and leases (ASC 842); familiarity with stock-based compensation (ASC 718) is an advantageExperience leading an audit or review, including direct management of external auditors through to resolution of findingsExperience with multi-entity accounting, consolidation, and intercompany eliminationA track record of designing accounting processes and controls from the ground up, or of taking on underperforming processes and rebuilding themSubstantial ERP experience with NetSuite, Sage Intacct, QuickBooks Online, or a comparable platform,
