Job Description – Backend Lead (Java)Role: Backend Lead (Java) Role Type: Full-time Location: Kochi Experience: [5+] yearsRole SummaryWe are looking for an experienced and technically strong Backend Lead to join our engineering team. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in Java, Spring Boot, and Microservices, along with strong hands-on experience in system design, software architecture, and building scalable backend systems.The candidate will be responsible for driving the technical design and development of complex backend applications, while also providing technical leadership to the engineering team. Beyond coding, this role requires someone who understands the product and business context, can translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions, and has experience leading and mentoring engineers.ResponsibilitiesLead the design, development, and implementation of scalable and high-performance backend applications using Java and Spring Boot.Design and develop robust microservices-based architectures with a focus on scalability, reliability, performance, and maintainability.Own and drive system design and architecture for complex products and business requirements.Evaluate technical requirements and translate them into effective, scalable, and maintainable solutions.Work closely with Product, Business, Engineering, and other cross-functional teams to understand product requirements and translate them into technical solutions.Demonstrate strong understanding of the product, business domain, customer needs, and technical trade-offs while making architectural decisions.Lead technical discussions and make decisions around architecture, technology selection, design patterns, APIs, databases, scalability, and performance.Review existing systems and identify opportunities for optimization, modernization, scalability, and reliability improvements.Conduct code reviews and ensure adherence to coding standards, engineering best practices, and architectural principles.Troubleshoot and resolve complex production and technical issues,



including performance and scalability challenges.Establish and promote best practices around software development, testing, deployment, monitoring, and observability.Mentor and guide engineers, helping them grow technically and professionally.Manage and lead a team of engineers, including task allocation, technical guidance, performance feedback, and career development.Collaborate with engineering leadership to define technical roadmaps and drive successful execution.Stay updated with emerging technologies, engineering practices, and industry trends, and evaluate their applicability to the product.RequirementsBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.5+ years of experience in software/backend development, with significant experience in Java.Strong hands-on expertise in Core Java, Spring Boot, and Microservices.Strong understanding and practical experience in System Design and Software Architecture.Proven experience designing scalable, distributed, and highly available backend systems.Strong understanding of RESTful APIs, service-to-service communication, distributed systems, and API design.Good understanding of database technologies, including SQL and NoSQL databases.Experience with caching, messaging/streaming systems, asynchronous processing, and other distributed-system concepts is highly desirable.Strong understanding of design patterns, data structures, algorithms, concurrency, and performance optimization.Experience with cloud platforms, CI/CD, containerization, and tools such as Docker, Kubernetes, Jenkins/GitHub Actions, etc. is preferred.Strong understanding of software development lifecycle, testing methodologies, code quality,
