IMPORTANT PLEASE READ BEFORE APPLYING
This position is NOT for everyone.
Sarvoham is looking for a Manager - Digital Storytelling & Community Outreach who genuinely believes in compassion, animal welfare, animal rights, and responsible people relationships.
This is not a desk-only role. Our Communications, Marketing & Outreach team must understand the realities of working in an animal shelter and be willing to step onto the ground whenever required pro-actively.
We are looking for someone who:
- Is vegan or open to transitioning to veganism, and genuinely understands the ethical principles behind welfare of the animals.
- Genuinely cares about all animals and all species, not only dogs, and believes animals deserve compassion, dignity, freedom from cruelty, and protection from exploitation.
- Is willing to actively advocate for animal rights and welfare, both within and outside the organization.
- Is willing to be hands-on with shelter operations and participate in or support activities such as animal rescues, animal handling, bathing, feeding, walking, cleaning kennels, maintaining hygiene, enrichment, transportation, and basic shelter upkeep.
- Is willing to work alongside animal caretakers, rescuers, veterinarians, volunteers, and frontline teams, and understands and respects the challenges they face.
- Can respond calmly and responsibly during animal emergencies, rescue situations, difficult cases, injuries, conflicts, and other high-pressure shelter situations.
- Is willing to understand the complete animal-care cycle, from rescue and admission to treatment, rehabilitation, enrichment, adoption, foster care, and end-of-life care where necessary.
- Believes employees working in animal welfare deserve empathy, dignity, fairness, psychological safety, accountability, and strong leadership, while being capable of holding people accountable without losing compassion and humanity.
- Is willing to lead by example rather than expect others to do work they are unwilling to do themselves.
- Understands that working for an animal welfare organization is fundamentally different from working in a conventional corporate environment.
Please DO NOT apply if:
You are not compassionate towards animals, care only about dogs, are unwilling to support ground-level shelter operations, or are uncomfortable with cleaning, handling, feeding, walking, bathing, rescuing, or caring for animals when required.
Please also do not apply if you believe Communications/Marketing & Outreach should remain completely separate from shelter operations, are unwilling to stand up against animal cruelty and advocate for animal rights, or are looking only for a conventional corporate role.
At Sarvoham, Digital Storytelling & Community Outreach is not simply about communications, social media management and community relationships.
It is about building a culture around a shared purpose: creating a kinder world for animals while building an organization where the people serving that mission can thrive.
We would rather hire one deeply aligned person who is willing to learn, get their hands dirty, stand up for animals, and lead with compassion than someone with an impressive rsum who does not believe in our mission.
If this resonates with you, please read the complete JD carefully before applying.
If it does not, we respectfully request that you do not apply.
Position: Manager Digital Storytelling & Community Outreach
Department: Communications, Marketing & Outreach
Reports To: Founder & President
Location:
Bengaluru, Karnataka (On-site)
Employment Type: Full-Time
ABOUT SARVOHAM:
Sarvoham is an animal welfare organization dedicated to rescuing, medical treatment, rehabilitation, welfare and protection of injured, abandoned, abused and neglected animals living on the streets of Bangalore, India. Sarvoham was established in April 2017 by co-founders Haris Ali & Madhusmita Sahu with a vision to create an inclusive eco-system that co-exists with animals providing them a respectable life that contributes to the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) frameworks and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for the planet.
In the past 9 years, Sarvoham has grown from a small charity effort to a well-established animal welfare organization which has rescued more than 3500 street animals, and homes more than 200 dogs at its shelter. Our work extends beyond just rescue, we strive to build a compassionate society through ethical leadership, animal welfare education, community outreach and engagement in addition to advocacy.
Sarvoham means the harmony between all elements of nature, both human and non-human animals, and the organization is guided by the spirit of harmonious coexistence.
ROLE PURPOSE:
Sarvoham stands at a defining moment in its journey to create a more compassionate world for animals and seeks to expand its impact by building emotionally compelling public awareness, meaningful institutional partnerships, and a growing community of supporters who champion the cause of stray and shelter animals.
We are looking for an experienced, creative, and deeply compassionate Manager Digital Storytelling & Community Outreach who can own Sarvoham's public voice from the shelter floor to the social media feed. This is a hands-on, on-ground role for someone who can pick up a camera to capture a rescue in progress, write a caption that moves a stranger to care, and walk into a corporate or campus conversation to build a CSR partnership, often within the same week.
As the manager-equivalent owner of this function, you will be Sarvoham's storyteller and community voice responsible for how the organization is seen, felt, and supported by the outside world.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
Content Creation & Visual Storytelling:
- Plan, create, and edit photo, video, and written content that authentically narrates the journeys of Sarvoham's animals from rescue through recovery, rehabilitation, and adoption.
- Develop and maintain a consistent visual identity and brand voice across all digital platforms.
- Adapt content formats (documentaries, reels, shorts, long-form video, carousels, stories) to suit each platform's audience and algorithm.
Videography & Digital Narrative Production:
- Spend regular hands-on time at the shelter capturing authentic, unscripted moments of animal care, rescue operations, and recovery.
- Manage end-to-end video production shooting, editing, sound, and captions/subtitles for accessibility.
- Build and maintain a searchable archive of animal stories and media assets for ongoing use across campaigns and partnerships.
Social Media Management & Community Engagement:
- Own end-to-end social media presence (Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn, and other relevant platforms) content calendar, scheduling, posting, and community management.
- Respond promptly and compassionately to inbound enquiries, comments, and direct messages across all social media platforms.
- Track platform performance and engagement data, and adjust content strategy based on what resonates with Sarvoham's audience.
CSR Partnerships & Institutional Outreach:
- Design and pitch outreach programs and campaigns to educational institutions and corporates for CSR collaboration.
- Build and maintain relationships with corporate CSR teams, schools, and colleges for volunteering, fundraising, and awareness programs.
- Own and design outcome based campaigns that create awareness and expand outreach.
Animal Welfare Events:
- Plan, organize, and execute animal welfare events — including adoption drives, awareness camps, volunteer days, and fundraisers.
- Coordinate cross-functional support from the veterinary team, shelter staff, and volunteers to ensure smooth event execution.
- Capture and repurpose event content into ongoing digital storytelling and outreach material.
CANDIDATE PROFILE:
The ideal candidate is a compassionate animal welfare advocate with a genuine creative instinct — someone who can move fluidly between shooting a rescue video, writing a caption, pitching a CSR partner, and organizing an event, all in service of Sarvoham's mission.
- Work Experience: 3–6 years of experience in social media management, digital content creation, or communications, ideally including work — professional or volunteer — with an animal welfare organization or NGO.
- Qualification: Bachelor's degree in Mass Communication, Journalism, Marketing, Visual Arts, or a related field; equivalent demonstrated experience will also be considered.
- Portfolio: A demonstrable portfolio of photography, videography, and/or social media content — ideally including emotionally resonant storytelling.
- Operational Skills: Proficiency in video shooting and editing (mobile or DSLR/mirrorless), basic graphic design, and social media scheduling/management tools. Comfortable working on-site at an animal shelter, including in physically and emotionally demanding conditions, to capture authentic content.
- Personality blends: Compassion that translates naturally into storytelling instinct; creative and organized in equal measure; comfortable operating as a one-person function across content, social, outreach and events; resilient when documenting difficult or distressing animal welfare situations; builds trust with institutional partners through consistency and professionalism; community-first instinct in every public-facing interaction.
PREFERRED BACKGROUNDS
- Prior experience, skilled or volunteer, with an animal welfare organization, shelter, or NGO doing similar rescue/welfare work is a plus.
- Background in mass communication, journalism, digital marketing, or visual arts.
- Experience building or supporting CSR partnerships or institutional outreach programs.
- Own videography/photography equipment, or strong comfort with smartphone-based content creation.
- Practices and promotes a personal lifestyle that is animal-friendly and supports Sarvoham's mission of compassion towards all animals.
- Comfortable operating in a 6 day work week with a flexible schedule, including weekends or evenings.
