Role & responsibilities
Prepare product and component costing based on BOM, drawings, specifications and manufacturing process.
Develop should-cost models for fabricated, machined, sheet metal and bought-out components.
Analyse material consumption, material yield, scrap and wastage for costing.
Calculate process-wise costs including cutting, bending, fabrication, welding, machining, grinding, painting and assembly.
Develop costing for heavy fabricated structures and sheet metal components used in construction/heavy equipment.
Calculate cycle time, labour cost, Machine Hour Rate (MHR), consumables and manufacturing overheads.
Review and validate supplier quotations and cost break-ups against internally calculated should cost.
Identify cost gaps and support commercial negotiations with suppliers.
Analyse major cost drivers and recommend opportunities for cost reduction and process optimisation.
Support target costing for current products and engineering changes.
Work with Design/Engineering teams to understand product specifications and evaluate design-to-cost opportunities.
Support VA/VE initiatives, alternate material evaluation and process optimisation.
Provide costing inputs for make-or-buy decisions, localization and alternate supplier development.
Maintain databases for material prices, process rates, labour rates, MHR, cycle times and supplier benchmarks.
Track changes in steel/material prices and manufacturing costs and update costing models.
Prepare cost comparison, supplier benchmarking and cost-reduction reports for management.
Preferred candidate profile
B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical / Production / Industrial Engineering.
1020 years of experience in Product Costing / Should Costing / Cost Engineering / Supplier Costing.
Robust preference for candidates from Construction Equipment, Heavy Engineering, Heavy Fabrication, Industrial Machinery or Capital Equipment manufacturing.
Solid ability to read and understand engineering drawings and manufacturing processes.
Advanced MS Excel skills; ERP/SAP exposure preferred.
CMA / Cost Accounting knowledge will be an added advantage.
Robust analytical, commercial and negotiation skills.
