They must ensure no child is left on the bus, report maintenance issues, and communicate with parents/school officials.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Safety and Inspection: Conduct mandatory daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections, checking brakes, tires, lights, and emergency equipment. Ensuring the vehicle is clean, safe, and in good working order.
- Safe Operation: Drive, stop, and turn the school bus following all state and federal traffic laws.
- Passenger Management: Enforce safety regulations and maintain orderly conduct among students on the bus.
- Scheduling and Routes: Adhere strictly to authorized, scheduled routes and pick-up/drop-off times.
- Student Care: Assist students in boarding and exiting the bus,



including managing specialized equipment for children with disabilities.
- Security Check: Perform a final check at the end of every route to ensure no student is left on the vehicle.
- Communication: Report any behavioral issues or incidents to school authorities, and notify parents of delays or route changes.
- Emergency Procedures: Follow established protocols in case of emergencies, accidents, or severe weather.

Requirements and Qualifications
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
- Clean driving record.
- Ability to pass background checks and, often, drug tests.
- Possess a skilled, patient, and calm demeanor, especially with students.

Working Conditions
- Drivers typically work split shifts (early morning and mid-afternoon).
- Hours are often tied to the academic school year, including field trips and sports events.
