Role: Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET)

Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, execute, and maintain scalable automated test suites across:
Component-level testing
API and service-level testing
Integration testing
End-to-end functional testing
Regression and release-validation testing
Non-functional, resiliency, and performance-testing support
Build and maintain high-quality automation code using Java and/or Python.
Work within Illumio’s existing Java/Selenium automation framework and contribute recommendations for framework modernization, tooling improvements, execution stability, and test strategy.
Take ownership of test automation frameworks, including reusable libraries, framework architecture, test data, reporting, test execution reliability, and maintainability.
Partner with software engineers, product managers, and quality leadership to define testable requirements, identify quality risks, and build quality into the software development lifecycle.
Develop and execute API, integration, and UI test automation using tools such as Selenium, Playwright, Cypress, REST/API testing libraries, or comparable technologies.
Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines and improve quality gates, reporting, release readiness, and feedback cycles.
Investigate failures in CI/CD or test environments; identify whether the root cause is related to the application, service/API, test automation, environment, test data, infrastructure, or an external dependency.
Support release sign-off by clearly communicating test results, risk assessments, defects, coverage gaps, and release recommendations.
Allocate approximately 20% of capacity to performance-testing support, including workload execution, baseline analysis, bottleneck identification, and collaboration with developers and infrastructure teams.
