An X-ray technician (or radiologic technologist) is a licensed medical skilled who operates specialized imaging equipment to create radiographs (X-rays) of patients' internal anatomy. These images help doctors and specialists diagnose injuries and illnesses, such as bone fractures or lung conditions.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Patient Preparation: Explains procedures, positions patients correctly, and ensures patient comfort.
- Safety Protocols: Shields both the patient and themselves from unnecessary radiation using lead aprons and barriers.
- Equipment Operation: Adjusts machine settings (voltage, current, and exposure time) for clear imaging and performs routine equipment calibrations.
- Image Processing:
Processes and evaluates captured radiographic images to ensure they are of high diagnostic quality.
Education & Certification Path
- Academic Background: Requires completing a 10+2 in the Science stream (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) followed by a Diploma, Associate Degree, or Bachelor’s Degree in Radiologic Technology or Medical Imaging.
- Certifications: In regions like the US, certification is provided by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). In India, certifications are governed by bodies like the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC).
Pay: ₹18,000.00 - ₹20,000.00 per month
