Job Summary

The Directional Driller is responsible for planning, executing, and monitoring directional drilling operations to achieve well objectives safely, efficiently, and in compliance with engineering designs and regulatory standards. The role requires close collaboration with drilling engineers, geosteering teams, rig personnel, and project management to ensure accurate well placement and optimal drilling performance.

Key Responsibilities

1. Pre-Job Planning
- Collaborate with drilling engineers, geosteering teams, and project managers to develop and review directional drilling programs aligned with project objectives and well designs.
- Participate in pre-job meetings to review well plans, risk assessments, and contingency procedures.

2. Equipment Preparation
- Ensure all directional drilling tools, downhole equipment, and surface systems are inspected, calibrated, and prepared prior to deployment.
- Verify compatibility and readiness of MWD/LWD, motors, RSS, and related directional tools.

3. Site Preparation & Risk Assessment




- Conduct site assessments to identify potential operational, safety, and environmental risks.
- Implement mitigation measures in coordination with rig and HSE teams.

4. Directional Drilling Operations
- Operate and control directional drilling tools to steer the wellbore in accordance with the approved well plan.
- Maintain target inclination, azimuth, and trajectory while optimizing drilling efficiency.

5. Monitoring & Adjustments
- Continuously monitor drilling parameters including weight on bit (WOB), torque, drag, pressure, RPM, inclination, and azimuth.
- Make real-time adjustments to maintain wellbore quality and minimize non-productive time (NPT).

6. Problem Solving & Troubleshooting
- Identify and resolve operational challenges such as tool failures, poor hole conditions, torque and drag issues, or unexpected downhole behavior.
- Recommend corrective actions and alternative strategies when deviations from plan occur.
