Your future duties and responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
.Design & Development Architect and implement scalable Elasticsearch clusters (index design, mappings, analyzers, synonyms, aggregations). Build and maintain Java services integrating with Elasticsearch (REST High Level Client / new Java API client). Develop near real-time ingestion pipelines (Logstash / Beats / Kafka / custom ETL).
- Relevance & Features Implement query DSL, compound queries, rescoring, function score, and aggregations. Relevance tuning (BM25, analyzers, boosts, synonyms, stemming, stop words). Implement autocomplete, typo-tolerance (fuzziness), highlighting, and faceted search.
- Performance & Reliability Optimize indexing/search performance (routing, sharding, refresh intervals, segment merging). Capacity planning, scaling, and cluster administration (snapshots, ILM, hot-warm-cold architecture).
Monitor health with Elasticsearch APIs, Prometheus/Grafana, Kibana, and APM. Ensure resiliency, zero-downtime deployments, and disaster recovery.
- Quality & Security Write clean, well-tested code (JUnit/Testcontainers/Mock frameworks). Implement security (TLS, RBAC, API keys, field/document-level security). Partner with SRE/DevOps for CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, and cloud deployments.
Required Qualifications
.5-6 years total experience; 3+ years hands-on with Elasticsearch in production.
- Solid Java (Java 8+), collections/concurrency, and HTTP/REST.
- Proficient with Elasticsearch query DSL, mappings, analyzers, aggregations, and the Java client.
- Experience with index lifecycle management (ILM), snapshots/restore, cluster tuning.
- Data pipeline experience with Logstash / Beats / Kafka or custom ingestion.
