Role Description The UK, Germany Payroll (Subject Matter Expert) is a full-time remote role responsible for overseeing accurate, compliant payroll processing for employees in the UK and Germany. This role manages end-to-end payroll cycles, including data collection, validation, calculation, and review of payroll outputs, while ensuring compliance with local tax, social security, and labor regulations. The SME will serve as the key point of contact for clients, addressing complex payroll queries, advising on regulatory changes, and supporting implementation of current processes and systems.
Day-to-day tasks include handling statutory filings, managing garnishments and other deductions, coordinating with internal teams and external providers,
and continuously improving payroll workflows and documentation. The role also involves maintaining up-to-date knowledge of UK and German payroll legislation and contributing to best practices across the wider payroll operations team.
Qualifications
- Strong expertise in payroll administration and payroll processing for the UK and Germany, with a proven ability to manage end-to-end payroll cycles.
- Knowledge of payroll taxes and payroll services, including statutory filings, social contributions, and employer reporting requirements.
- Experience handling garnishments and other statutory or court-ordered deductions in line with local regulations.
- Solid understanding of UK and German employment laws, tax regulations, social security rules, and related compliance requirements.
- Proficiency with payroll systems and HRIS tools; advanced skills in Excel or similar spreadsheet applications.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills, with the ability to manage sensitive data securely.
- Clear, professional communication skills and the ability to work effectively with clients and cross-functional teams in a remote environment.
- Relevant professional qualification or certification in payroll or finance (e.g., CIPP or equivalent) and prior experience in an international or outsourced payroll environment.
