Purpose To perform routine, preventive, and breakdown maintenance of all manufacturing and packing equipment in the OSD (Oral Solid Dosage) facility, ensuring uninterrupted production, equipment reliability, GMP compliance, and overall asset health.
The Mechanical Technician/Fitter is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of production equipment supporting GMP manufacturing areas, while maintaining high standards of safety, GMP documentation, and regulatory compliance.

Job Responsibilities / Deliverables
Equipment Maintenance – Manufacturing Area
Responsible for the operation, upkeep, troubleshooting, and maintenance of OSD manufacturing equipment, including:
HSMG (High Shear Mixer Granulator): Mechanical maintenance, lubrication, impeller/chopper alignment, and seal checks.
FBD (Fluid Bed Dryer): Blower maintenance, filter housing, retarding chamber, and bag assembly maintenance.
Coater / Tablet Coating Machine: Spray gun cleaning, exhaust blower maintenance, gear drive inspection, and pan maintenance.
Dust Collector Systems: Filter inspection, differential pressure checks, and motor/blower maintenance.
Blender / RMG / Sifter / Compression Area Equipment: Maintenance and troubleshooting, as applicable.
Machine-Level Utility Connections: Maintenance and troubleshooting of pneumatic lines, vacuum lines, water connections, and other associated utility interfaces.
Packaging Machines – Maintenance & Support
Responsible for maintenance and mechanical troubleshooting of packaging equipment, including:
Blister Packing Machines: Changeover assistance, sealing station alignment, and feeding system maintenance.
Cartoning, Bottle Filling, Labeling & Secondary Packing Machines: Mechanical troubleshooting, drive system checks, belt adjustments, and sensor alignment.
Tablet / Capsule Inspection Machines: Maintenance and troubleshooting, as applicable.
Preventive & Breakdown Maintenance
Execute preventive maintenance for all manufacturing machines as per approved SOPs and OEM guidelines.
Carry out routine inspections of pumps, valves, bearings, seals, belts, and other rotating components.
Perform lubrication, greasing, tightening, and equipment condition monitoring.
Execute PM schedules for all applicable equipment within the defined timelines.
Maintain PM checklists and ensure timely and accurate documentation.
Perform condition monitoring through vibration, temperature, and noise pattern checks.
Maintain lubrication schedules for mechanical moving parts.
Identify potential equipment failures at an early stage and escalate them immediately.
Ensure availability of required mechanical spare parts and consumables.
Respond promptly to breakdowns and ensure minimum equipment downtime through effective diagnosis and troubleshooting.
Diagnose mechanical faults and restore equipment to normal operating condition in the minimum possible time.
Maintain equipment history sheets, maintenance records, and breakdown logs.
Tools, Equipment & Workshop Competency
Skilled in the use of mechanical tools such as spanners, torque wrenches, pullers, dial gauges, and vernier calipers.
Skilled in pump dismantling, assembly, and rotating equipment repair.
Basic knowledge of workshop machines such as drilling machines, grinders, and cutting tools.
Documentation & GMP Compliance
Record all maintenance activities in logbooks, PM sheets, job cards, and other applicable documents as per Good Documentation Practices (GDP).
Follow ALCOA+ principles for maintenance documentation.
Support QA, EHS, and regulatory audits by maintaining accurate, complete, and updated records.
Report deviations, equipment breakages, abnormalities, and other maintenance-related issues as per applicable procedures.
Support CAPA investigations and closure as required.
Maintain engineering documentation, including equipment logbooks and PM checklists.
Coordinate with relevant teams for calibration-related activities where applicable.
Installation & Commissioning
Assist in the installation and commissioning of new equipment in existing or new facilities.
Support new piping installations, equipment alignment, and equipment levelling.
Ensure proper mechanical installation in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, and OEM recommendations.
Safety & Compliance
Follow Permit to Work (PTW), Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and utility safety protocols.
Ensure proper use of PPE and strict adherence to plant safety standards.
Support EHS inspections and implement corrective and preventive actions.
Maintain safe working practices during maintenance, breakdown, installation, and commissioning activities.
Qualifications & Experience
ITI Fitter / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering preferred.
6–9 years of relevant experience, preferably in OSD / Pharma manufacturing plant maintenance.
Hands-on experience with OSD equipment such as HSMG, FBD, Coater, Blister Packing Machines, Dust Collectors, and other pharmaceutical manufacturing and packing equipment.
Skills & Competencies
Robust knowledge of mechanical maintenance related to OSD equipment.
Strong hands-on mechanical troubleshooting skills.
Ability to read and interpret machine drawings, PM checklists, P&IDs;, GA drawings, and SOPs.
Knowledge of pneumatics, basic electrical systems, and machine-level utility interfaces.
Ability to troubleshoot and resolve mechanical equipment faults effectively.
Understanding of GMP documentation and compliance requirements.
Basic knowledge of pumps, compressors, boilers, cooling towers, and HVAC mechanical systems.
Basic understanding of GMP expectations related to utility operations.
Safety-conscious, reliable, disciplined, and accountable in day-to-day maintenance activities.
