The Nursing Superintendent is responsible for overall planning, organization, administration, and supervision of nursing services to ensure high standards of patient care, safety, and compliance with hospital policies and statutory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

A. Nursing Administration & Leadership
- Participate in the formulation of the hospital’s philosophy, objectives, and policies related to nursing services.
- Plan, organize, direct, and evaluate nursing services across all departments.
- Ensure effective implementation of hospital policies, protocols, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Act as a skilled role model and leader for the nursing staff.

B. Staffing, Manpower Planning & Scheduling
- Assess manpower requirements and recommend recruitment as per patient load and services.
- Plan duty rosters, staff deployment, rotations, and leave management for nursing personnel.
- Ensure optimal utilization of nursing staff including Ward In-charges, Staff Nurses, and Trainees.
- Monitor attendance, punctuality, and discipline of nursing staff.

Patient Care & Quality Assurance
- Ensure delivery of safe, ethical, and high-quality nursing care to all patients.
- Conduct regular ward rounds individually and with the Medical Superintendent/Hospital Administrator.
- Monitor adherence to infection control practices, patient safety protocols, and nursing standards.
- Address patient complaints related to nursing care and ensure corrective actions.

D. Training, Education & Development
- Plan and conduct orientation, in-service education, and continuing nursing education programs.
- Identify training needs and facilitate skill enhancement of nursing staff.
- Encourage professional development and adherence to ethical nursing practices.

E. Monitoring, Audit & Reporting
- Implement and oversee nursing audits, documentation audits, and clinical audits.
- Review daily census, nursing reports, incident reports, and submit periodic reports to management.
