*Core Responsibilities:*
- *Sample processing*: Receive and process clinical samples - blood, urine, sputum, pus, body fluids, stool, swabs. Ensure proper labeling and accessioning
- *Culture & identification*: Perform culture on appropriate media, isolate organisms, and identify bacteria, fungi, parasites using biochemical tests, automated systems like VITEK/MALDI-TOF, and microscopy
- *Antimicrobial testing*: Conduct AST by Kirby-Bauer disc diffusion, MIC, or automated methods. Report sensitivity/resistance patterns as per CLSI guidelines
- *Staining & microscopy*: Prepare and examine Gram stain, ZN stain, KOH mount, wet mount, and other special stains for rapid diagnosis
- *Serology & immunology*: Perform tests like Widal, CRP, RA factor, ASO, ELISA, Rapid card tests for HIV, HBsAg, HCV, dengue, malaria
- *Sterility testing*: Test OT air, water, CSSD items, and equipment for sterility. Monitor fumigation efficacy and environmental surveillance

*Quality & Safety:*
- *Quality control*: Run daily QC for media, reagents, stains,



and equipment. Participate in EQAS/IQAS programs. Maintain NABL documentation
- *Infection control*: Work with HICC for HAI surveillance, outbreak investigation, antibiotic stewardship, and biomedical waste audit
- *Biosafety*: Follow BSL-2/3 protocols, use PPE, and ensure safe disposal of infectious waste per BMW 2016 rules

*Reporting & Coordination:*
- *Reporting*: Authorize and release verified reports in LIS/HIS. Alert critical values like positive blood culture, MDR organisms to clinicians/ICU immediately
- *Inventory*: Maintain stock of media, reagents, antibiotic discs, and kits. Monitor expiry and raise indents
- *Training*: Train DMLT students, technicians, and nursing staff on sample collection and infection control practices
