Job Summary:
The Science Laboratory Technician - Chemistry is responsible for preparing and maintaining laboratory equipment, chemicals, and materials, supporting teachers in conducting experiments, ensuring laboratory safety, and facilitating a smooth learning experience for students in the chemistry lab.
Key Responsibilities:
- Laboratory Preparation:
- Prepare laboratory apparatus, chemicals, and materials needed for practical experiments.
- Set up experiments according to the instructions provided by teachers.
- Safety and Maintenance:
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations, including proper handling and storage of chemicals.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the chemistry laboratory.
- Conduct regular checks of equipment and chemicals, ensuring they are functional and within expiry dates.
- Support for Teaching & Learning:
- Assist teachers during practical lessons and demonstrations.
- Provide guidance to students on the proper use of laboratory equipment.
- Demonstrate correct experimental procedures when required.
- Inventory & Record-Keeping:
- Maintain an accurate inventory of chemicals, equipment, and consumables.
- Prepare reports on stock usage and requirements for replenishment.
- Compliance & Documentation:
- Follow all relevant health and safety protocols, including waste disposal procedures.
- Keep records of experiments, chemical usage, and incidents, if any.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Degree in Chemistry, Laboratory Technology, or related field.
- Prior experience as a laboratory technician is preferred.
- Knowledge of laboratory safety standards and chemical handling procedures.
- Valuable organizational and communication skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
