Role Summary The Resident Construction Manager Mechanical will be responsible for managing and coordinating all mechanical construction activities at the pharmaceutical project site. The role requires strong experience in pharma project execution, mechanical installation, utility systems, contractor management, commissioning, and coordination with engineering, QA/QC, EHS, and project teams .
The incumbent will act as the key site representative for mechanical construction and ensure that the project is executed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with approved engineering documents, GMP requirements, specifications, and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Construction Management
- Manage day-to-day mechanical construction activities at the project site.
- Supervise installation of mechanical equipment, piping, utility systems, HVAC, and related systems.
- Ensure construction activities are executed according to approved drawings, specifications, method statements, and project schedules.
- Monitor progress against the baseline schedule and identify potential delays.
- Coordinate with contractors and subcontractors to ensure timely completion of work.
- Resolve site-related technical and construction issues.
- Pharmaceutical Utilities Mechanical Systems
Experience/knowledge In Installation And Execution Of Systems Such As
- HVAC and cleanroom systems
- Chilled water and cooling water systems
- Process and utility piping
- Compressed air
- Nitrogen and other process gases
- Purified Water (PW) and Water for Injection (WFI) systems
- Steam and clean steam systems
- Boiler and utility systems
- Hot water and thermic fluid systems
- ETP/STP and other utility equipment
- Process equipment and skids
- Pumps, tanks, vessels, heat exchangers,
and other mechanical equipment
- Piping Fabrication
- Monitor fabrication and installation of process and utility piping.
- Ensure compliance with approved piping specifications, isometrics, PIDs, and applicable standards.
- Coordinate welding, inspection, testing, flushing, passivation, pressure testing, and reinstatement activities.
- Monitor orbital/conventional welding activities where applicable.
- Ensure proper material traceability and quality documentation.
- Project Coordination
- Coordinate closely with Civil, Electrical, Instrumentation, HVAC, Automation, QA/QC, Validation, EHS, and Engineering teams.
- Participate in project review meetings and provide construction status updates.
- Coordinate with design consultants, EPC contractors, vendors, and client representatives.
- Review technical queries, RFIs, change requests, and site modifications.
- Safety EHS
- Ensure all construction activities comply with site EHS requirements.
- Conduct/participate in toolbox talks, safety inspections, and permit-to-work activities.
- Ensure contractors follow approved safety procedures.
- Identify and mitigate construction-related risks.
- Stop unsafe work when necessary and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
- Planning Progress Monitoring
- Develop and monitor detailed mechanical construction schedules.
- Track manpower, materials, equipment, and contractor productivity.
- Prepare daily/weekly/monthly progress reports.
- Identify critical-path activities and recovery plans for delays.
- Coordinate material availability and site requirements with procurement and stores.
- Commissioning Handover
- Coordinate pre-commissioning and commissioning activities for mechanical systems.
- Ensure completion of testing, flushing, cleaning, pressure testing, and functional checks.
- Coordinate with commissioning and validation teams.
- Ensure timely closure of mechanical punch lists.
- Prepare and review as-built documentation and mechanical handover dossiers.
Required Skills
- Robust knowledge of pharmaceutical plant construction and mechanical project execution .
- Excellent knowledge of mechanical equipment, piping, HVAC, and utility systems.
- Solid understanding of GMP and clean utility requirements .
- Ability to read and interpret PIDs, GA drawings, isometrics, layouts, and equipment drawings.
- Strong contractor and manpower management skills.
- Good knowledge of project planning, scheduling, and progress monitoring.
- Strong troubleshooting and decision-making ability.
- Excellent coordination and communication skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office and project reporting tools.
- Ability to work independently and manage a large multidisciplinary construction team.
