Roles and Responsibilities of a Special Educator in Schools

A special educator in schools supports students with disabilities and diverse learning needs to help them achieve academic, social, emotional, and behavioral success within the school workplace.

1. Identification and Assessment
- Identify students with learning difficulties, intellectual disabilities, autism, ADHD, emotional/behavioral disorders, or physical impairments.
- Conduct screening and assessments.
- Interpret psychological and educational reports.
- Help determine eligibility for special education services.

2. Development of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
