Position Overview

IDCUBE Identification Systems is seeking a highly skilled Senior PostgreSQL DBA & SQL Performance

Specialist to manage, tune, secure, and troubleshoot PostgreSQL databases across both client on-premise installations and cloud environments. This role is ideal for someone who excels in database administration,

advanced SQL programming, performance tuning, backup/restore strategy, troubleshooting, and enforcing security frameworks. The ideal candidate will act as a PostgreSQL subject matter expert (SME)—guiding developers with best practices, reviewing queries, advising on schema design, and ensuring optimal performance for high-volume, mission-critical systems. The role involves working with IDCUBE's next-generation cloud-native platform (Access360 / Access360 AI) that leverages AI-driven access control,

real-time insights, and modern microservices architecture.

Key Responsibilities

Install, configure, and maintain PostgreSQL databases in cloud and on-premise client environments

Manage database version upgrades, patches, maintenance, and monitoring

Ensure high availability (HA), failover, and replication setups (Streaming Replication, Logical Replication,

etc.)

Oversee backup, restore, PITR (Point-in-Time Recovery), and disaster recovery planning

Perform deep-dive query tuning using EXPLAIN / EXPLAIN ANALYZE

Optimize schemas, indexes (B-Tree, GIN, GiST, BRIN), materialized views, and partitions

Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks related to I/O, CPU utilization, connection pooling, or mis-configured parameters

Tune PostgreSQL configuration parameters for production workloads

Develop, optimize, and troubleshoot SQL queries, functions, and triggers using PL/pgSQL

Review developer queries and recommend best practices for optimal performance

Guide teams on efficient data modeling, normalization, partitioning, and indexing strategies





Implement and manage encryption at rest (native encryption, filesystem encryption, cloud-level encryption)

Implement and manage encryption in transit (SSL/TLS)

Implement and manage column-level and field-level encryption

Implement and manage row-level security (RLS) and role-based access control

Perform regular security audits, vulnerability checks, and permission reviews

Ensure compliance with enterprise security standards and customer policies

Serve as the escalation point for all database-related production issues

Diagnose issues related to locks, deadlocks, query slowdowns, connection pool exhaustion, and replication lags

Provide L2/L3 support for customer environments and cloud-hosted databases

Work closely with developers to ensure database design aligns with application performance requirements

Recommend best practices for API-level query handling

Review database usage patterns and optimize them for scale and reliability

Required Skills

7-8 years of hands-on PostgreSQL DBA and SQL programming experience

Robust knowledge of database internals

Performance tuning and query optimization

Concurrency, vacuum, autovacuum, isolation levels, and locking

PL/pgSQL programming

Index optimization and partitioning

Materialized views and caching strategies

SSL/TLS setup

Column-level encryption (pgcrypto or similar)

Data-at-rest encryption pgAdmin psql pg_stat_statements

EXPLAIN ANALYZE

Strong Linux fundamentals (Ubuntu/RedHat)

Scripting experience (bash/shell)

Excellent analytical and troubleshooting abilities

B.Tech/M.Tech in Computer Science or related field

Preferred (Bonus) Skills

Experience managing PostgreSQL on cloud platforms such as AWS RDS, Azure PostgreSQL, or GCP

Knowledge of containerized deployment (Docker/Kubernetes)

Experience with CI/CD pipelines and database version control (Liquibase, Flyway)

Exposure to high-volume transaction systems (1M+ daily inserts)

Familiarity with security and compliance frameworks (SOC2, GDPR, etc.)
