Job Purpose / Description The P&M; Mechanical Engineer owns end-to-end mechanical engineering for the project's plant & machinery fleet, principally Tower Cranes, Batching Plants, Concrete Pumps, Boom Placers (Static/Mobile), Passenger-cum-Material Hoists and Telehandlers — the major P&M; asset categories deployed on project, along with the wider spread of earthmoving, material-handling and site-support equipment, and additionally owns the mechanical/piping scope of Site Enabling Services — temporary water supply, plumbing and drainage infrastructure. The role spans the full equipment lifecycle — pre-mobilization technical evaluation, installation, commissioning, operation support, maintenance, overhaul and eventual demobilization/redeployment — with accountability for maximizing equipment uptime, safety and cost efficiency across the project.

Key Responsibilities

- Conduct pre-mobilization technical evaluation and site-suitability assessment of equipment — foundation/ground bearing capacity, approach and clearances — before deployment.
- Plan and supervise equipment mobilization, positioning, erection and commissioning sequences as per OEM guidelines, GA drawings and approved method statements.
- Interpret and apply load charts, structural drawings and rigging plans to plan secure lifting operations.

- Plan and execute mast climbing/telescoping sequences for tower cranes and mast-based equipment in coordination with structural and safety teams.
- Diagnose and resolve mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and structural faults across the equipment fleet.
- Design and drive preventive and predictive maintenance regimes — including condition-based monitoring such as vibration or oil analysis where applicable — to reduce unplanned downtime.
- Plan and execute major overhauls, critical component change-outs (engines, gearboxes, wire ropes, hydraulic cylinders) and end-of-life refurbishment decisions.
- Evaluate and decide on hire-versus-own equipment deployment based on project duration, utilization and lifecycle cost.
- Negotiate and manage OEM/vendor AMC and repair contracts, and monitor service-level and turnaround performance.
- Coordinate statutory third-party inspection, periodic load testing and certification renewal of lifting equipment.
- Plan and commission temporary water supply infrastructure — storage, pumping and distribution networks — sized to project consumption.
- Oversee pipe-laying, jointing, pressure testing and commissioning of plumbing systems, and plan temporary sanitation/drainage infrastructure.
- Monitor fuel and consumable consumption across the fleet and drive efficiency and cost-control initiatives.
- Plan equipment demobilization, redeployment across clusters and disposal of surplus or obsolete assets.

- Lead root-cause analysis for repeat equipment failures and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Drive safety compliance for mechanical operations — permit-to-work, lock-out/tag-out, working-at-height and lifting-operation protocols — and lead technical training for mechanical technicians and operators.

Requirement / Competencies / Qualifications Diploma/B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of 3 years of hands-on field experience on construction plant & machinery (higher experience welcome for senior positions), ideally with exposure to tower cranes, hoists, batching plants, concrete pumps, boom placers or telehandlers, along with familiarity with temporary water supply/plumbing systems.

- Sound understanding of engine, transmission, hydraulic and pneumatic system design and operating principles.
- Working knowledge of the structural and mechanical design aspects of cranes, hoists and mast-climbing equipment — stability, ballast and tie-in requirements.
- Familiarity with statutory and regulatory frameworks governing lifting equipment — competent-person certification, periodic testing and factory/labour regulations.
- Knowledge of preventive/predictive maintenance methodologies and condition-monitoring techniques.
- Commercial acumen for equipment cost evaluation, contract negotiation and lifecycle cost analysis.
- Understanding of water supply network design principles, pump hydraulics and piping standards.
- Analytical and root-cause problem-solving ability for recurring technical failures.
- Ability to read and apply engineering drawings, GA drawings and OEM technical manuals.
