Head / Senior Manager – NPD, CNC Operations & Manufacturing Engineering.
Senior techno-managerial leadership role for new product industrialisation, advanced CNC machining, metrology and shop-floor performance.

- Role Mission
Own the complete conversion of a customer drawing / CAD model into a capable, documented and economically optimised production process — and ensure the CNC shop delivers the highest practical utilisation, quality and productivity from its machines.
This is a hands-on technical leadership role, not a routine production administration position. The selected person should be equally comfortable with the drawing, CAM/process plan, CNC machine, CMM report and customer-quality documentation.
- Non-Negotiable Technical Requirements
- New Product Development / industrialisation: feasibility, process flow, operation planning, machine selection, tooling, fixtures, trials, validation and production handover.
- Strong CNC manufacturing knowledge: turning, VMC/HMC/VTL and especially complex multi-axis machining; ability to troubleshoot process, tooling, setup and cycle-time issues at machine level.
- Practical understanding of simultaneous 5-axis machining, CAM prove-out, tool accessibility, workholding, collision avoidance and datum strategy.
- PPAP / APQP documentation: Process Flow, PFMEA, Control Plan, MSA, SPC, capability studies and production validation.
- Structured problem solving: RCA, CAPA, 8D, 5-Why, Fishbone, Poka-Yoke and recurrence prevention.
- Advanced metrology: GD&T;, CMM inspection planning, datum alignment,
profile / positional tolerances and first-article validation. Exposure to 5-axis CMM / REVO-type probing / 3D scanning is strongly preferred.
- CNC shop productivity: machine loading, OEE, setup reduction, tooling cost, tool life, cycle-time optimisation, rejection reduction and operator/programmer capability development.
- Preferred Component / Process Exposure
- Complex precision-machined components with tight GD&T; and multiple datum relationships.
- Impellers, diffusers, blades, housings, structural components, complex fixtures or similar 5-axis work will be a strong advantage.
- Low-volume / high-complexity NPD as well as transition to repeatable serial production.
- Experience with Mazak, Okuma, DMG Mori, Makino, Hermle or equivalent high-end CNC platforms is desirable; brand is less important than process depth.
- Key Responsibilities
A. NPD & Industrialisation
- Review drawings, specifications and GD&T; for manufacturability and risk.
- Prepare manufacturing feasibility, process route, setup sequence, datum strategy and machine selection.
- Define fixtures, workholding, cutting tools, parameters, gauges and inspection approach.
- Lead CNC/CAM trials, first-off prove-out, dimensional correction and process stabilisation.
- Drive PPAP / FAI readiness and transfer a capable process to regular production.
B. CNC Shop Management & Optimisation
- Plan machine loading and capacity; improve productive spindle hours and asset utilisation.
- Reduce setup time, cycle time,
tool consumption, idle time, rework and rejection.
- Establish machining standards, tool-life control, setup discipline and repeatable process practices.
- Coordinate preventive maintenance and address recurring machine/process causes of downtime.
- Develop programmers, setters, operators and engineers through structured skill building.
C. Quality, Metrology & Problem Solving
- Ensure process controls are aligned with critical drawing characteristics and customer requirements.
- Review CMM / inspection results and correlate dimensional variation to process, setup, tooling and machine causes.
- Lead RCA/CAPA and 8D for significant internal or customer issues; verify effectiveness and prevent recurrence.
- Use capability data, SPC and MSA to establish evidence-based process control.
D. 5-Axis & Advanced Manufacturing
- Guide CAM strategy and machining methodology for complex 5-axis parts.
- Validate fixture rigidity, tool reach, orientation, collision risk, surface quality and cycle-time trade-offs.
- Improve utilisation of advanced CNC and metrology assets rather than treating them as specialist islands.
