The engineer should have experience in reviewing and revalidating existing PSVs and determining whether the existing valve remains suitable based on the current process conditions, equipment design conditions and applicable over pressure scenarios.
Key experience should ideally include:
PSV sizing, selection and revalidation
Understanding and application of API 520 and API 521
Identification/evaluation of credible over pressure and relief scenarios
Relief load calculations
Review of PSV set pressure, relieving pressure and accumulation
Review of existing PSV calculations and determination of adequacy
PSV datasheet preparation/review
P&ID;/PFD and equipment datasheet review
Evaluation of scenarios such as:
Blocked outlet
Fire case
Control valve failure
Cooling/utility failure
Gas blow-by
Tube rupture, where applicable
Thermal expansion
Other process-specific over pressure scenarios
Review of PSV inlet/outlet piping and back pressure considerations
Recommendations for PSV resizing, replacement or re-setting, where required.
Requirements
Experience: Ideally 10+ years of relevant experience
Industry: Oil & Gas, Refining, Petrochemical, Chemical, LNG, Gas Processing, etc.
Brownfield/operating-plant experience and previous PSV revalidation campaigns would be highly preferred.
