Role Description The MSW (Medical Social Worker) at SUNACT Cancer Institute will provide psychosocial support to individuals and families affected by cancer, including assessment, counseling, and guidance throughout the treatment journey. This full-time, in office role in Mumbai involves coordinating with physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals to address emotional, social, and financial needs, and to connect patients with appropriate community resources. The MSW will facilitate support groups, help patients understand treatment options, assist in coping strategies, and contribute to patient education initiatives.
Daily responsibilities also include maintaining accurate documentation, participating in case discussions,
and supporting discharge planning and continuity of care.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW) from a recognized institution, with preferred experience in medical or oncology settings.
- Strong skills in psychosocial assessment, counseling, and crisis intervention, with the ability to support individuals and families through complex health journeys.
- Ability to coordinate patient services, including resource linkage, financial counseling support, and discharge planning in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills, including proficiency in explaining medical information in accessible language.
- Sensitivity to diverse cultural, social, and economic backgrounds, and a commitment to non-discriminatory, patient-centered care.
- Organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple cases, maintain records, and contribute to quality improvement initiatives.
- Comfort working in an intensive clinical environment and willingness to participate in training, continuing education, and team meetings.
- Fluency in English and local languages commonly spoken in Mumbai is highly beneficial; prior experience in oncology or transplant centers is an advantage.
