Summary - A QC Engineer in mechanical/Electrical/Manufacturing is required. Having a Technical, Analytical, soft skills and a compliance knowledge plus certifications like ISO 9001 Auditor, CQE, Six Sigma, and NDT/Welding Inspector.
- Skills- Technical Skills: Knowledge of manufacturing processes, mechanical design, inspection tools (CMM, gauges, calipers).
- Analytical Skills: Statistical Process Control (SPC), Measurement System Analysis (MSA), capability studies.
- Soft Skills: Communication, documentation, problem-solving, teamwork.
- Compliance Knowledge: ISO, IATF, ASME, API standards.
Responsibilities
- Inspection &
- Testing
- Develop and implement quality control plans and inspection procedures for mechanical components.
- Conduct incoming material inspections to verify supplier conformity.
- Perform in-process and final product inspections using gauges, calipers, CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machines), and other precision instruments.
- Lead first article inspections (FAI) and PPAP submissions for recent parts.
2. Process Control &
- Analysis
- Design and monitor Statistical Process Control (SPC) charts to detect process deviations.
- Conduct Measurement System Analysis (MSA) including Gage R&R;, bias, and linearity studies.
- Perform process capability studies (Cp, Cpk, Pp, Ppk) to ensure machinery processes meet tolerance requirements.
3. Problem-Solving &
- Corrective Actions
- Lead root cause analysis (RCA) using 5 Whys, Fishbone, and 8D methodologies.
- Implement Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA) to eliminate recurring defects.
- Collaborate with production teams to troubleshoot mechanical issues on the shop floor.
4. Documentation &
- Compliance
- Maintain detailed quality documentation: control plans, inspection reports, FMEAs, and SOPs.
- Ensure compliance with ISO 9001, IATF 16949, AS9100 or other relevant standards.
- Act as the quality liaison during audits, preparing evidence and representing the QC department.
5. Continuous Improvement
- Apply Lean Six Sigma principles to reduce defects and improve efficiency.
- Drive initiatives to minimize waste, improve yield, and enhance machinery reliability.
- Provide feedback to R&D; and design teams for Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Quality (DFQ) improvements.
6. Supplier Quality Management
- Conduct supplier audits and qualification checks.
- Monitor supplier performance and collaborate to resolve quality issues.
- Ensure raw materials and outsourced components meet mechanical specifications.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree (Mandatory)
- Mechanical Engineering
- Industrial Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Manufacturing Engineering
- Some universities also offer B.Tech/B.E. in Quality Engineering.
Master’s Degree (Optional but Valuable)
- M.Tech/M.E. in Quality Engineering, Quality Management, or Engineering Management.
- Focuses on advanced statistical analysis, quality systems, and leadership
