IMPORTANT NOTE FOR ALL HIRING MANAGERS / INTERVIEWERS

Equal Opportunities / Non-Discrimination /GDPR

TATA Consultancy Services is committed to ensuring that ALL current and prospective employees have equal opportunities and that discrimination is eliminated.

Discrimination includes the failure to recruit, select, promote and treat all current and prospective employees in the same way, irrespective of the list below. Disciplinary action, including possible dismissal, will be taken against any employee who discriminates against others on the grounds of any of the items listed below.

Illegal Interview Questions

TCS does not discriminate against any person on the basis of - and interviewers should not ask any questions or make comments about – anything related to any of the following, because to not hire a candidate because of any one of them is discriminatory:

- Race
- Colour
- Creed
- Gender
- Sexual orientation
- Religion
- National origin
- Birthplace
- Age
- Disability
- Marital/family status

Tips & examples of what not to ask/write when interviewing or writing job specs

- Avoid specifying a requirement for a particular number of years' experience in a certain area, as this indirectly relates to the candidate's age – write/state, for example "robust experience with" or "experience of at least 2 large implementation projects"

- If there is a specific language requirement for a role, avoid specifying a need for a "native speaker", as this directly relates to the candidate's nationality – instead, ask for a "fluent speaker" or whatever level of fluency you desire.

- If there is travel involved in the role, try to assess the candidate's willingness for this without asking details of their personal life/home situation including wife, children etc

Additional Interview Tips

If you have CVs of persons (electronic or paper copy) who have already been made an offer, those that did not make the cut or those that were not considered for a position – Delete/destroy all of these CVs anywhere where they are stored, including emails.

Share relevant CVs of potential candidates with a limited number of persons who need to see the CVs for selection and recruitment

Scheduling an interview

It is uncommon in the UK for interviewers to contact candidates directly and/or at unscheduled times without co-ordinating this through the recruiter, and some candidates may not appreciate it, particularly if they are in a role and you have contacted them during working hours without prior arrangement.

If you wish to arrange an interview with a candidate, telephone or F2F, this should be co-ordinated and scheduled for a specific date & time via your UK&I; Talent Acquisition Group (TAG) contact, unless otherwise agreed with the TAG team.

Punctuality

Candidates in the UK expect interviews to be punctual.

In the same way that it would not be acceptable for a candidate to arrive at a face-to-face interview late, you should also not be late for your interviews.

If you have a telephone interview scheduled with a candidate for a specific time, please make sure you call at the exact time specified. Calling either early or late will look unprofessional and may leave a bad impression of TCS on the candidate, possibly even to the extent where they are no longer interested in the position.

Occasionally delays cannot be avoided, particularly if you are working on client site, but this should not be a regular occurrence and you should endeavour to make every effort to get the message to the candidate beforehand if you are likely to be late.

Feedback

Interviewers should not contact candidates directly with interview feedback. Any feedback, whether positive or negative, should be given via your TAG contact. Ensure Interview forms are fully and accurately completed and sent to TAG as soon as interviews are over.

Limit questions to seek information to what is relevant for the role that the candidate is being considered for and the stage in the selection process. (Some questions may be relevant to only shortlisted or selected candidates, ask these at the relevant stage).

Rationale for any decision in the entire process needs to be clearly and accurately recorded, shared with TAG, and be reproducible

Salary negotiations & onboarding/offer process The onboarding/offer process and the negotiation of rates/salary should be done by your TAG contact. Please do not offer the position, or indicate an intention to offer, verbally or otherwise, to any candidate during the interview, as there may be legal repercussions if for any reason we are unable to proceed.
