Engineer, SW - Platform (L08)
About the Role:
Engineer, SW - Platform is responsible for designing, developing, and automating T-Mobile's data, infrastructure, and workload orchestration platforms — with Control-M as a core scheduling and automation engine — that enable analytics and software delivery across the enterprise. This role builds resilient, scalable, cloud-native systems that integrate software engineering, infrastructure, and operations, using Control-M to orchestrate complex batch workflows, cross-platform job dependencies, and enterprise-wide scheduling to drive automation, efficiency, and reliability. The engineer develops infrastructure as code, administers and automates Control-M environments (servers, agents, jobs, and calendars) via CLI/AAPI, and creates reusable services and tools that accelerate delivery.
This position bridges DevOps, Data Engineering, and Platform Operations disciplines — with Control-M administration and job orchestration as a central responsibility — and directly supports T-Mobile's builder culture and cloud transformation strategy.
What You’ll Do:
- Develop scripts and automation frameworks using Control-M's CLI, AAPI, and Web Services to streamline job/folder creation, promotions, calendar management, and version control.
- Monitor and maintain Control-M job health, SLAs, and alerting,
building dashboards and observability tooling to proactively identify batch failures, delays, and performance bottlenecks.
- Support Control-M workplace builds, upgrades, patching, and agent/server administration, ensuring platform reliability, security, and role-based access control across environments
- Design, build, and automate cloud-native platform solutions across Azure, AWS, or GCP environments or data visualization tools (PowerBI, Tableau, Metric Insights or Qlik Sense) or data virtualization tools (Denodo) or analytical tool (SAS) or on-prem platform (Hadoop).
- Engineer orchestration, scheduling, and data platform pipelines, including automation for Databricks, Snowflake, and Control-M
- Develop and maintain scripts that support platform reliability and observability, including monitoring, alerting, and performance dashboards
- Collaborate on platform architecture, standards, and security controls to improve resiliency, performance, and cost efficiency
- Create and maintain platform documentation such as runbooks, blueprints, templates, and operational playbooks.
What You’ll Bring:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
- Hands-on experience administering and supporting Control-M environments, including servers, agents, and Enterprise Manager, across development, test, and production.
- Practical experience scripting and automating Control-M job scheduling tasks (CLI/AAPI) to reduce manual scheduling, promotion, and calendar-maintenance effort.
- Understanding of Control-M job ownership, ticketing, and dependency models within complex, cross-system batch orchestration environments.
- Ability to troubleshoot Control-M job failures, SLA breaches,
and scheduling conflicts, and communicate resolutions clearly to engineering and business stakeholders.
- Expertise in scripting using python and ability to develop automations to reduce manual tasks related to platform.
- Hands-on experience designing and deploying solutions in Azure, AWS, or GCP using infrastructure as code
- Experience working with modern data platforms, analytics, virtualization or visualization technologies.
Must Have Skills:
- Working knowledge of Control-M platform roles and responsibilities, including job/folder ownership, scheduling calendars, SLA management, and alert configuration.
- Proficiency automating Control-M via CLI, AAPI, or Web Services to support provisioning, promotions, and operational workflows.
- Experience with Control-M administration tasks such as version upgrades, patching, agent management, and role-based access/change control.
- Ability to document Control-M standards, runbooks, and escalation procedures for job scheduling and batch operations support.
- Proficiency in programming and automation using Python, Bash, and PowerShell
- Strong experience using infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or ARM templates
- Hands-on experience with data platforms such as Snowflake and Databricks, or comparable analytics, virtualization, or on-prem platforms
- Strong skills working in Linux and Windows operating system environments
- Basic knowledge of implementing AI solutions using Claude code or Cursor.
Nice to Have:
- Experience with data visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Metric Insights, or Qlik Sense
- Experience with data virtualization tools such as Denodo or analytical tools such as SAS
- Experience with on-prem platforms such as Hadoop
Cloud and platform certifications such as:
- Microsoft Azure Administrator (AZ-104)
- Terraform Associate or equivalent IaC certification
- SnowPro Core or Databricks Certified Data Engineer Associate
- Linux Foundation Certified System Administrator (LFCS)
