About the RoleWe are looking for an experienced Embedded Control Engineer – Motor Drives to help develop a high-performance embedded control platform for next-generation electric drive and motion-control systems.
This is a hands-on engineering role at the intersection of Motor Control, Embedded Systems, Power Electronics, and Real-Time Software.
The engineer will work closely with the hardware and controls teams to design, develop, tune, and validate a deterministic, scalable, and reusable motor-control platform that is fully owned in-house.
This role is ideal for someone who wants to go beyond integrating vendor SDKs and reference firmware and instead take ownership of the core motor-control architecture.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and optimize Field-Oriented Control (FOC) / Vector Control algorithms for high-performance electric motor drives.
- Design and architect real-time embedded firmware for STM32, TI C2000, or equivalent microcontroller platforms.
- Develop high-frequency control loops for torque, current, velocity, and position control.
- Configure and optimize PWM generation, ADC triggering, synchronized sampling, dead-time handling, and inverter switching.
- Interface with current sensors, voltage sensors, temperature sensors, Hall sensors, incremental encoders, absolute encoders, and other feedback devices.
- Develop rotor position and velocity estimation and feedback-processing algorithms.
- Perform motor parameter identification, controller tuning, and performance optimization.
- Develop robust embedded firmware in C/C++ with emphasis on deterministic execution and maintainable architecture.
- Design firmware layers for motor control, communication, diagnostics, configuration, fault handling, and system monitoring.
- Develop and maintain communication interfaces using CAN and CAN-FD.
- Contribute toward future industrial communication integration including EtherCAT.
- Perform motor-controller board bring-up and peripheral validation.
- Debug issues across hardware, firmware, sensing, power electronics, and control systems.
- Perform commissioning, control-loop tuning, performance characterization, and system validation.
- Develop fault-detection and protection mechanisms for conditions such as overcurrent, overvoltage, undervoltage, overtemperature, encoder failure, stall, and communication faults.
- Use oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, debuggers, CAN tools, and other laboratory equipment for system-level debugging.
- Work closely with power electronics, mechanical, controls, and robotics teams to optimize complete machine behaviour.
- Participate in architectural decisions for a reusable and scalable motor-drive control platform.
- Contribute to the development of core motor-control IP and engineering standards.
Required SkillsThe candidate should have solid fundamentals and practical experience in:
- Embedded C / C++
- Field-Oriented Control (FOC)
- Vector Control
- Motor-control algorithms
- Control theory
- Power electronics
- Real-time embedded systems
- Firmware architecture
- PWM and ADC synchronization
- Current and voltage sensing
- Encoder and position-feedback systems
- CAN / CAN-FD communication
- Motor-drive commissioning and tuning
- Hardware debugging and board bring-up
Preferred Technical ExperienceExperience with one or more of the following would be highly valuable:
- STM32 microcontrollers
- TI C2000 digital signal controllers
- ARM Cortex-M architectures
- PMSM / BLDC / AC motor control
- Current, velocity, and position control loops
- Space Vector PWM (SVPWM)
- Clarke and Park transformations
- PI/PID controller tuning
- Sensorless motor-control techniques
- Resolver or encoder interfaces
- Fixed-point and floating-point control implementation
- DMA, timers, interrupts, ADCs, SPI, UART, and other MCU peripherals
- Bootloaders and firmware update mechanisms
- CANopen or custom CAN protocols
- EtherCAT
