About The Role The Applied Engineering Benchmark Specialist position at Synthires offers a unique prospect for experienced engineers, researchers, and technical experts to contribute to cutting-edge AI evaluation projects. In this role, you will leverage your engineering expertise to develop and review rigorous assessment content aimed at benchmarking advanced AI systems in various engineering disciplines. Your work will directly influence the quality and reliability of AI benchmarks used globally, supporting the development of more intelligent and capable AI models.

This is a fully remote, hourly contract position that requires a commitment of approximately 10 or more hours per week, providing flexibility to balance your professional and personal commitments.

Qualifications To be successful in this role, candidates should possess a PhD or be doctoral candidates in Engineering or a closely related field. Exceptional candidates with a Master’s degree and significant expertise in a specialized engineering domain may also be considered.



A robust grasp of graduate-level engineering principles, applied mathematics, and technical standards is essential.

Excellent written English and technical communication skills are required to clearly articulate complex concepts and ensure high-quality content creation. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to produce precise, well-structured technical explanations and assessments, with a focus on clarity and rigor.

Responsibilities

- Author challenging multiple-choice engineering questions that test deep conceptual understanding and problem-solving skills across various engineering disciplines.
- Verify existing questions for accuracy, clarity, completeness, and technical rigor, ensuring they meet high academic standards.
- Rate questions based on their difficulty level—Medium, Hard, or Expert—according to academic and technical standards.
- Create questions with one correct answer and nine plausible distractors designed to challenge advanced AI solvers and human learners alike.
- Develop clear, step-by-step technical solutions in Markdown format to accompany each question, facilitating understanding and evaluation.
- Provide 1–5 reputable academic references for each question to support its validity and credibility.
- Document and justify all edits and revisions made during the question verification process, maintaining a transparent record of quality assurance.
