Role Description The Counsellor role at Sevalaya is a full-time, on-site position based in Tiruvallur. The Counsellor will provide individual and group counseling support to beneficiaries, including children, youth, and families, addressing emotional, behavioral, educational, and social challenges. Daily responsibilities include conducting assessments, developing counseling plans, maintaining accurate case records, and documenting progress and outcomes.

The role involves close coordination with teachers, healthcare workers, social workers, and other program staff to ensure holistic support for beneficiaries.



The Counsellor will also facilitate workshops and awareness sessions, refer beneficiaries to specialized services when needed, and contribute to program improvement through regular feedback and reporting.

Qualifications

- Formal education in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or a related field (Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred).
- Demonstrated counseling skills, including active listening, empathy, rapport-building, and case management in community or educational settings.
- Ability to assess emotional and behavioral needs, develop appropriate intervention plans, and provide short-term and ongoing support.
- Strong communication skills in English and local languages, with the ability to explain concepts clearly to children, youth, and families.
- Experience working with vulnerable or marginalized communities, and a strong commitment to social development and ethical practice.
- Capacity to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, manage time and caseloads, and maintain accurate, confidential documentation.
- Basic computer skills for maintaining records, reports, and documentation; familiarity with NGO or non-profit environments is an advantage.
- Willingness to work in office in Tiruvallur, with openness to field visits and community engagement as required.
