About The Role

FM is seeking a highly motivated Business Development Engineer to spearhead growth initiatives within its fire protection and building materials segments across India and the Middle East. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in expanding FM’s market presence by identifying new business opportunities, fostering strong relationships with manufacturers, end users, and regulatory bodies, and supporting product certification processes. This role requires a strategic thinker with technical expertise and excellent communication skills to influence decision-makers and promote FM’s certification standards.

The Business Development

Engineer will also represent FM at industry events, deliver technical presentations, and contribute to certification projects, ensuring that FM’s standards are understood and adopted widely in the region.

Qualifications The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree in engineering, with a minimum of five years of relevant experience in business development, technical sales, or marketing,



preferably within the fire protection industry.

Experience in other industrial sectors may also be considered if complemented by a solid technical background. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to translate complex certification requirements into compelling value propositions for clients. Strong stakeholder management skills, disciplined follow-up, and the ability to build and sustain relationships with manufacturers, laboratories, and regulatory bodies are essential.

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office, are required.

Experience working or traveling in the Middle East is desirable, as is familiarity with product certification processes, FM standards, and fire protection products.

Responsibilities

- Drive business development efforts across India and the Middle East, aiming to increase the adoption of FM Approved products and certification services.
- Identify, qualify, and engage manufacturers, influencing decision-makers to pursue FM Approvals certification, and support their certification journey.
- Establish and nurture strong relationships with manufacturers, end users, and regulatory stakeholders to facilitate market growth and compliance.
- Represent FM at industry seminars, conferences, and trade shows by delivering technical presentations and participating in discussions to promote FM standards and services.




- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regulatory and certification requirements in India and the Middle East to ensure compliance and provide expert guidance.
- Travel as needed, including overnight stays, to support customer engagements, industry events, and certification processes (approximately 40% travel).
- Contribute to certification projects by participating in scoping, auditing, witnessing, documentation, and reporting activities to ensure adherence to standards.
- Develop and apply technical expertise across engineering and scientific disciplines to support internal teams and customers in achieving certification goals.
