Job Purpose

To design, develop, maintain, and improve tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, and gauges to support smooth production, consistent quality, and improved productivity with minimum downtime.

Key Responsibilities

1. Tooling Development & Maintenance

Design and develop jigs, fixtures, dies, molds, and gauges as per production requirement.

Maintain and repair press tools, forging dies, casting patterns, and CNC fixtures.

Ensure tools are available and fit for production with minimum breakdown.

2. CNC & Tool Room Operations

Handle CNC milling, turning, grinding, wire-cut EDM, and surface grinding.

Prepare tool paths and basic CNC programs (where required).

Select cutting tools, inserts, and tool holders.

3. Production Support

Support production during tool trials, tool prove-out, and first-off approval.

Troubleshoot tooling-related quality issues and process deviations.

Work closely with Production, Quality, and Maintenance teams.

4. Quality & Accuracy Control

Ensure tooling accuracy, tolerance control, and repeatability.

Use precision measuring instruments like CMM,



height gauge, bore gauge, micrometers, and dial indicators.

Ensure compliance with drawings and specifications.

5. Continuous Improvement

Improve tool life and reduce setup time.

Implement poka-yoke, Kaizen, and cost-reduction initiatives.

Support recent product development (NPD) and process improvement.

6. Vendor & Cost Coordination

Coordinate with external tool makers and vendors.

Evaluate tool performance and approve vendor tooling.

Control tooling cost and consumption.

7. Documentation & Standards

Maintain tool drawings, modification records, and tool history cards.

Follow 5S, safety, and ISO / IATF standards in the tool room.
