Job Description: A 1st Class Boiler Operator manages, monitors, and maintains high-pressure steam generation systems and auxiliary equipment in industrial plants while ensuring strict compliance with safety and statutory standards like the Indian Boiler Regulations (IBR). Core Responsibilities

- Boiler Operation & Control: Start up, monitor, and shut down high-pressure boilers (such as AFBC, WHRB, or coal/oil-fired systems), regulating steam pressure, temperature, water levels, and fuel feed rates via manual controls or PLC/DCS interfaces. [1]

- Water Treatment Management: Oversee softeners and demineralization (DM) plants, conduct routine chemical tests (pH, hardness, dissolved oxygen), and adjust chemical dosing to prevent scaling and corrosion.

- Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on valves, gauges, piping, and fuel nozzles, while diagnosing and resolving operational anomalies.

- Safety & Compliance: Maintain valid certification, enforce strict adherence to IBR and factory safety acts, and respond instantly to system alarms or emergencies like low water cut-offs.

- Supervision & Documentation:



Maintain accurate daily logbooks of operational parameters and guide shift workers, boiler attendants, or junior utility operators.

According to , “First-Class Certificate: Authorizes the holder to be in charge of one or more boilers with heating surface areas exceeding 1000 square meters.” Qualifications & Requirements

- Certification: Possess a valid 1st Class Boiler Attendant/Operator Certificate of Competency recognized by the local jurisdiction and IBR.

- Experience: Extensive hands-on background (ranging from 2 to over 15 years depending on plant scale) operating heavy-duty industrial boilers, turbines, or power plant utilities.

- Skills: Solid knowledge of thermodynamics, water chemistry, combustion engineering, and automated control systems (DCS/SCADA).

- Physical Demands: Ability to work in high-temperature, noisy environments, climb ladders, and execute shift rotations.
