Ward Nursing Incharge Job Description
Clinical Supervision: Supervise nursing care, patient assessment, medication, procedures, and emergency response.
Staffing: Prepare duty rosters, allocate staff, monitor attendance, workload, and competency.
Patient Safety: Ensure fall prevention, medication safety, identification, handover, and incident reporting.
Documentation: Maintain accurate nursing records, charts, care plans, and shift handovers.
Infection Prevention: Ensure hand hygiene, PPE, biomedical waste segregation, isolation, and aseptic practices.
Quality & NABH: Implement hospital policies, SOPs, audits, indicators, corrective actions, and NABH standards.
Coordination: Coordinate with doctors, other departments, patients/attendants, and hospital management for smooth ward functioning.
Daily Monitoring Responsibilities
The Ward Nursing Incharge should routinely monitor:
Patient census and bed occupancy
Nursing manpower and staff allocation
High-risk/high-dependency patients
Medication administration and medication errors
Patient identification compliance
Fall-risk and pressure-injury-risk patients
Infection-control and hand-hygiene compliance
Nursing documentation
Emergency trolley/Crash Cart readiness
Medical equipment functionality
Ward cleanliness and environmental safety
Consumables, linen, and stock availability
Patient/attendant complaints
Incident/near-miss reporting
Shift handover quality
Qualification
B.Sc. Nursing / Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing / GNM from a recognized institution.
Valid registration with the applicable State Nursing Council.
Relevant clinical nursing experience.
