Job Role:
As a Mechanical Engineer Product Design, you will play a senior-level role within the Through Life Support (TLS) team, providing tactical and strategic mechanical engineering support to enhance team efficiency and effectiveness. You will support successful project delivery and contribute to the long-term technical and operational success of the business. The role involves providing technical leadership in mechanical product design, engineering investigations, production support, and continuous improvement, while working collaboratively with OE, MRO, production, suppliers, assembly, and test teams to deliver robust engineering solutions
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with OE and MRO teams to deliver high-quality engineering solutions and documentation.
- Support production teams in achieving build schedules by resolving engineering issues promptly.
- Coordinate with suppliers, assembly, test, and other stakeholders to resolve technical challenges.
- Lead, support, review, and approve engineering investigations.
- Perform detailed Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and drive corrective actions.
- Interpret customer and internal technical requirements and develop robust mechanical design solutions.
- Apply design calculations, engineering analysis, and validation methods to verify designs.
- Perform and review engineering hand calculations.
- Interpret Stress FEA, thermal analysis, and bearing calculation reports.
- Ensure designs are optimised for manufacture, assembly, and cost.
- Apply Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles.
- Lead and coordinate design assurance, verification, and validation activities.
- Author, review, and approve engineering documentation.
- Drive continuous improvement in engineering processes, technical capabilities, and design quality.
- Lead and mentor design engineers and support team capability development.
- Define, track,
and report engineering KPIs and performance metrics.
- Support engineering budget targets and ensure activities are delivered within agreed timelines and budgets.
Job Requirements:
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related design engineering discipline, or equivalent relevant professional experience.
- Proven experience in mechanical product design and development.
- Strong experience in designing complex electromechanical products within aerospace or another highly regulated industry.
- Experience in rotating machinery, electric motors, generators, or smart motor technologies is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of aerospace design and product development processes, including R&T;, R&D;, NPI, and Through Life Support (TLS).
- Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering design principles and practices.
- Proven ability to analyse and resolve complex engineering problems.
- Experience in engineering investigations and Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
- Strong understanding of engineering materials and manufacturing processes.
- Knowledge of Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA).
- Experience in design assurance, verification, and validation processes.
- Ability to perform and review engineering hand calculations.
- Ability to interpret Stress FEA, thermal analysis, and bearing calculations.
- Experience leading and mentoring mechanical design or engineering teams.
- Robust communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience working with suppliers, customers, and cross-functional engineering teams.
- Experience defining and monitoring engineering KPIs and performance metrics.
- Proficiency in Siemens NX and/or CATIA.
- Experience with Teamcenter and/or Windchill PLM tools.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Strong organisational, self-management, and ownership skills.
- Ability to deliver engineering activities within agreed timelines and budgets.
